3. Oh, He May Not Have To Go THAT Far... The Appeal Will
probably take care of the whole thing. Remember Arthur Anderson?? If "the corrupt ones" get to work right away, he's probably gonna walk.

I won't believe he's captured until I see him in a jump suit!!

In fact, I don't believe ANYTHING anymore until it ACTUALLY happens. Saves my sanity!

10. We agree!
IF he gets off it will be on some obscure procedural infraction. Even * wouldn't DARE pardon him. No one knew who Mark Rich was outside of the beltway. Any future Ken Lay donations they would get would be overshadowed by outraged republican investors that lost a bundle in Enron...IMHO, NOT a smart move

6. This is how the RW may spin the Lay pardon if it happens
they will point to Clinton's pardon of Marc Rich, perhaps one of the nation's most infamous tax cheats. Same strategy as saying that Jack Abrahmof's paying the Dems as well as GOP, the RW was spreading.

7. I thought he had to surrender his passport.
Not that that would stop him with his money -- I should say, with him using other peoples' money. Then, when * leaves office, he'll pardon Lay then he could come home.

9. Lay did surrender his passport, after the verdicts came down.
Judge did not let Lay leave the courtroom without doing that, and posting bond.

Skilling had already surrendered his (which is good, because he apparently had done some serious visiting to Argentina several years ago).

I don't think lack of a legal passport could necessarily keep either one here though. Skilling has always had an extra high opinion of his brilliance -- if I had to lay bets, I'd bet Skilling would try to flee, and Lay would just wait for a pardon.

They both should have left the courtroom in handcuffs, rather than getting to continue to be scot-free until AT LEAST sentencing in September (hopefully not plus the minimum two years it will take to appeal).

A black guy who robbed $50 from a Seven-Eleven would have been in jail when caught. Period. Plenty of Muslims are in jails like Gitmo and don't even have charges against them.

But, boy howdy, we are really a nation of LAWS, aren't we, and DUE PROCESS when it comes to millionnaire buddies of Bush.

8. Little 'Mr. Magoo'
Ken Lay is probably worth around $800 million dollars. NO WAY is anyone who has that much money going to jail.

With that amount of money, he can hire a look-alike....a stand-in who will go in his place.

You watch.

11. Why should he? He can stay out of prison until Bush pardons him.

Or at least- if he *does* have to do any time, it'll be at a country club with guards.

12. I doubt it.
For the same reasons that others have raised:

1) tremendous wealth
2) prospect of bail pending appeal
3) prospect of successful appeal
4) prospect of pardon

17. Friendly judges will grant appeal after appeal, and
he will stay out of jail until junior pardons him on Jan 20, 2009.
