Gas watch.....ours is down to 2.59 here. This is the Memorial |
|
Day Weekend folks and gas has been going down! It's down about thirty cents in the last three weeks. Now this runs counter to logic and a lifetime of experience. There seems to be no such thing as "the market" anymore. No competition, either, as every place is virtually identical in their pricing. To me, this lowering of prices says that they were artificially too high. I believe that is called "gouging". Anyway...what's the price of a gallon of regular in your area and what do you make of this price DROP leading up to the Memorial Day Weekend? Is it just here in Arkansas or do you see it, too?

Actually, gas here in this undisclosed part of Very Red California is down ... but only about 4 cents in the past month. Regular is going for about $3.259 now at the cheapest places, although $3.399 stil is common at the big-name places.
And, no, this isn't out-of-the-way Blythe, where prices are about another 30 to 40 cents higher than even that.

3. $2.88 - Chicago suburbs |
|
And ours haven't gone down - pretty much maintained a $.05 spread over the past month. Too many SUVs around here to bring it down. :(

No change here in Greater Boston. I just saw $3.05 for mid-grade at the Hess...down about four cents from last weekend. Prices have been pretty flat for about 3 weeks, though.

switching over to those silly summer blends and are back on line. They did it early this year so already high gas prices would not have to go even higher onver the Memorial Day weekend.

16. I thought Bush was dropping the special blends |
|
Didn't he make some speech to the effect of "screw the environment - my poll numbers suck right now."?
That, and his big investigation into price gouging (which lasted all of about 5 days, and surprisingly found nothing to be amiss) was supposed to bring prices down.

14. It's called Monopolistic Price Fixing...And the Dems ignore it |
|
The number of oil companies has been allowed to dwindle because of mergers and acquisitions. Once we had Exon and Mobil. Now we have Exon Mobile.
Naturally, the fewer companies in a market -- and the bigeer the survivorsd are -- the less it is a market. It becomes the privatye playground of monopoliusts.
This has been going on in every industry for 30 years, and now the chickens have come home to roost.
And yet, the Democrats continue to ignore and allow this consolidation, and joining the GOP in the plaintive excuse "We can't do anything about it. It's those big old markets."

15. Yeah, and Coke was five 12-packs for $10 for the Holiday |
|
weekend. Wanna bet they are doing this out of patriotism and love for their countrymen? Didn't even slaves in the South get a "holiday" from time to time?
This is about demand and demand, the Holiday Inn, Outback Steakhouse, Coors Brewing, NASCAR sponsors, etc. bunch of campaign contributors demanded that the oil company campaign contributors lighten up for the weekend. Remember how gas went down at Christmas shopping time?
Gas is down, may as well write a check against that home equity line of credit and take the SUV on a trip no matter how "unsettled" you are.

"They" expect it to hit $4 a gallon in time for school to get out and travelling to begin. Ferry rates are going up as well.
The fact theophilus that your subject line is "ours is down to 2.59 here." really sucks, if you know what I mean?

23. $3.56 most places here, although some are selling for $3.53... |
|
...and the low price in the area is $3.50. There is some indication that prices have gone down a little-- I mean, EVERY gas station sold gas for $3.56 a gallon last week, so a few have gone down a few cents. I'm in north coastal california, generally among the highest gas prices in the lower 48.

25. Gas price rise since 'Decider in Chief' elected |
|
We have a convenience store with gas which went out of business during the 2000 election here by US Hwy 71. The gas prices (I think it went out during October/November 2000) is still posted, and thousands drive by it every day (Hwy 71 is a major artery in western Arkansas from Shreveport, LA to Joplin, MO). The price? Oh, $1.08 unleaded. Gas price yesterday at Walmart was $2.71. So, we've had a 250% increase in less than six years.
Yep, oil men in charge will 'jawbone those prices down' - hey, I got a bridge to sell ya!
