freepers face off with anti-gay protestors |
|
pigs must be flying:
from rawstory
Approximately 10 people from the Washington, D.C., chapter of FreeRepublic.com, a self-styled grass roots conservative group, held signs at the entrance of the cemetery supporting U.S. troops. A large sign held by several people said, "God bless our troops, defenders of freedom, American heroes."
They were faced off against a handful of anti-gay protesters who stood across a four-lane highway as people headed toward the national burial grounds.
The FreeRepublic.com group was trying to counter demonstrations by the Kansas-based group, led by the Rev. Fred Phelps. He previously had organized protests against those who died of AIDS and gay murder victim Matthew Shepard.

11. They don’t have any problem protesting them. |
|
They claim that Fred Phelps is a registered Democrat and Al Gore supporter.

5. Good for them for doing this |
|
and kudos to Rawstory for reporting on it.
Obviously DUers and Freepers don't agree on much, but at least we're all smart enough to know Phelps is a disgusting asshole.

6. Not really an issue... |
|
Like me, I feel that NO ONE should disrespect fallen troops at their funeral. No matter what the message.
I don't care if it was Democrats protesting a REPUBLICAN, PRO-LIFE, BUSH VOTING soldier. If a bunch of Freepers were trying to keep Democrats out from turning a soldiers funeral into a circus, I would be on their side on this one issue.
Nothing, NOT ONE THING, is more sacred to me than a fallen troop.

14. Democrats protesting the funeral of a soldier?? |
|
How lame an analogy is this? Has this EVER happened? How likely is this to EVER happen? Why would you trump up such a pile of steaming crap as this?
Oh, and "sacred"? I guess I don't know from "sacred". Sad, perhaps, but "sacred"?
BTW: I question your opinion, but I do not disrespect it.

15. You took my post literally... |
|
I was posting to illustrate that no matter what the political ideology of the protesters, I will ALWAYS take the fallen troops side.
By the way, when Fred Phelps does protest a funeral, what you have is a Democrat protesting a funeral. I think it is a big a shame that he associates himself with Democrats as it is to Baptists that he uses the word "Baptist" in their name.

getting his money? Showing up at all these funerals etc, must cost a good bit. Have any of our intrepid investigative reporters ever looked into this?

10. I don’t have time to look up the link, |
|
but my understanding is that this is how they make their money.
If their legal speech incites any aggression against them, they sue. They sue the person(s) that “Assaults” them and the authorities that allowed it to happen. In most cases they will not have to prove it, all they have to do is file it. Just the expense of preparing for trial makes most people want to settle.
If you yell in their face and spray a little bit, they can claim that you spat on them and they have the DNA to prove it.
Regards,
Mugu

12. This Was In My Hometown |
|
These loonies came to Athens to protest this funeral. It appeared from the story in the paper that when they protested the funeral more counter-protesters were there to fight back. Some people who even disagreed with the war came there and commented in my local paper about it. He basically said, "I'm against the war but not against our military."
