white supremacist hail Lou Dobbs has one of theirs

CHAPTER OF COUNCIL OF CONSERVATIVE CITIZENS EXTENDS "WELCOME" TO CNN'S LOU DOBBS.

This is fun. The St. Louis chapter of the Council of Conservative Citizens -- which has been denounced as white supremacist by the Anti-Defamation League and many others -- has posted this on its blog:
Welcome Lou Dobbs I knew you were one of us all along. Also, thanks for the proper citation, on CNN, no less.

That wonderful nugget was unearthed by Alex Koppelman over at The Huffington Post. Why is the CCC chapter welcoming Dobbs? Because, as you may recall, a piece on Lou Dobbs Tonight about immigration used the CCC as a source. That provoked an outcry. Subsequently, when I went to CNN and asked several questions about their decision to use CCC, they gave me a statement that fell short of an apology but described the incident as "regrettable."

So it looks as if Dobbs has made himself some new fans, huh? Seriously, Koppelman's post is worth a read, because he's keeping the pot boiling at CNN by returning to the network's spokespeople and asking them some tough questions. And he's also offered an interesting take on why he thinks this apparently minor screw-up is very significant.

Says Koppelman:
The only thing CNN apparently considers regrettable here is that they broadcast a map produced by the CCC; the fact that they were even looking for a map of "Aztlan" in the first place escapes notice.

So, seeking clarification, I talked with with a CNN spokesperson, and asked specifically, "Does CNN stand by Casey Wian's statement of the same night that 'You could call this the Vicente Fox Aztlan tour, since the three states he'll visit, Utah, Washington, and California, are all part of some radical group's vision of the mythical indigenous homeland'? Second, does CNN stand by the accuracy of the statements made by Mr. Dobbs and some guests on his show that there is a 'reconquista' movement?" The spokesperson told me CNN feels there is no need for further clarification, and that it stands by the report.

I'd like to know who put the Aztlan stuff in Dobb's hands? who is behind Dobbs?

1. My guess is that Dobbs just grabs what he can find and runs
with it. When your show is all illegal aliens all the time you eventually get hungry for new material. The "Aztlan map" is probably just Lou, Kitty and the other toadies that populate his show trying to be original.

It all sucks of course. Most illegals have never heard of "Aztlan" and have no idea what it means.

10. My Guess Is Similar. Someone On His Staff Found That Crap
and used it. Knowingly or unknowingly.

14. I saw a statistic somewhere...
...that said 47 percent of those protesting in the southwest states seek the return of those properties to Mexico. So while they may not be part of a movement, they may hold those sentiments that the "Aztlan" movement holds. I'm not sure it's a bad idea, if they take Texas too.

2. Lou had me fooled for awhile.
I thought he cared about working people. The middle class.

The past month has shown me that was all a facade to hide his xenophobic racism.

If Randi Rhodes goes on another rant about how his show is completely geniune, and he is a good guy, I'll fucking scream.

4. Lou has been pushing for securing the boarders, and punishing the
employers who hire and exploit the illegals. I AGREE with him! Why do you call that stance racist?

5. It's more about how Dobbs does things.

This "map of Aztlan" mentioned in the earlier thread isn't an anomaly. It's very much in character with how Lou Dobbs tries to get his message across.

The fact of the matter is Lou flirts with right wing extremists and racists a lot and giving them a forum on his show tends to legitimate their views.

You can be about fixing the borders and anti-illegal immigration without being a bigot. But if you repeatedly put bigoted people on your show, you eventually tend to get judged by the company you keep.

6. Because he frequently abbreviates to simply
"those people," and goes past the point where my agreement with his overlaps. I do agree with some of his points but more when he's talking about protecting our jobs and lightening our tax burden. If he stuck there I'd agree more, but he escalates fast and far beyond, titillating the xenophobes.
Just my 2 cents.

7. Non-racists can make those arguements WITHOUT the KKK's help.
The CCC is just the Klan without the robes.

That's all it has ever been- that is the role
it was founded to play.

Dobbs knows that.
And apparently he's just FINE with it.

11. You only ASSUME that Dobbs himself picked out that map knowingly
really, the way so many DU'ers react to Lou Dobbs is revealing.

12. And you think people at CNN can't check their sources better than bloggers
I don't buy their excuse. They used that map knowing where the hell it came from, and were betting on the idea that no one would catch them.

I don't buy their bullshit story about not knowing where they got that crap from.

Were you 100% behind Dan Rather? Even though the secretary came right out and said she didn't type that document but typed one LIKE it?

What I find repulsive is the need for so many DU'ers to constantly prove they are just Soooooooooo Liberal. Anyone and everyone else who differs or doesn't tow the line exactly is a DINO or Racist.

Dobbs is and always has been a Conservative.

on many things.

Sorry I'm sooooooooo liberal and not a conservative....

15. So call me when he fires his researchers. Until then, he's a racist ass.
Really, is that your only excuse for this? Incompetence?
Someone else's fault?
Another "rogue staffer" incident the RWers seem to have so often?
Is that it?

Can't blame Lou, because he doesn't DO or even REVIEW
his own 'reporting'?

Well, you let me know when Lou hands out pink slips
to the obviously careless and incompetent "STAFF"
who allowed this "mistake" to tarnish his grand glowing reputation.

Until then, he remains in my opinion
a bloviating xenophobe who offers racist fantasy-threats
as FACT, so long as they tend to keep his ratings up.

Frankly, I'm not holding my breath waiting for those pink slips.
Are you?

16. I may disagree
with some of what he says, but I also agree with some of it. I htink the guy is truly an independant and I actually prefer him over most talking heads. Even when I disagree with him I don't get as angry as when watching idiots like Hand Job or O'Retard.
