Too bad we couldn't have some sort of a Declaration of Independence. |

You know, against Tyranny and all. That'd be so cool. Guess it'll never really happen though, I've never heard of anything like that ever happening.

1. You know.....why couldn't we create a movement to educate |
|
citizens about the Declaration of Independence and the Contstituion?
Why couldn't we push for civics to be placed in the classroom instead of religion...this is something a Dem could run on...and a cause that we could push....
Love your name by the way!!

2. You've hit on a BRILLIANT idea, MadMaddie! |
|
And it would be a GREAT addition to a Dem platform. "How can we expect the voters of tomorrow to participate in their government, unless they have an understanding of how their government works?"
Would LOVE to hear a Republican try to argue with THAT initiative! "There those America-hating Democrats go again, trying to educate our children about their own country!"

4. Thanks.....this is something every American can participate in... |
|
The Constitution and the Declaration of Indepedence are what they are...
The forefathers knew that there would be a crisis of power....and they tried to incorporate ideas that would allow citizens like ourselves to defend the Constitution!!
How would we communicate this to Dem leaders...It's not a complicated issue and maybe that's been the Dem problem....KISS...It's about the Constitution!!

"It's not a complicated issue."
And it works on so many levels PR-wise (in addition to it being a great practical idea if adopted in schools):
(a) The American-hating Democrats are using the Constitution and Bill of Rights as a rallying cry ...
(b) The GOP want to protect the flag (a symbol of freedom); the Democrats want to protect the Constitution (the written law that guarantees freedom)
(c) With all the ongoing discussion about immigration and the 'path to citizenship', the Democrats are advocating 'more informed citizenship' for all Americans
And there can be NO COUNTER ATTACK on this by Republicans. Are you REALLY going to come out AGAINST citizens knowing about the Constitution?
When I was in school (way back in the day), the Constitution was studied, in detail, in American History class, not as a separate course. It was that way for decades. So there isn't even the excuse that this would cause a complete overhaul (meaning $$$) of present-day school curricula.

We, the people of good conscience and of hope for a better America, do hereby declare our independence from the present political ideologies and corporate status quos that have become too burdensome for us to live with and that have taken upon themselves the power to take from us the liberties and freedoms that our forefathers have fought and died for, do hereby declare our independence from said government and affirm our willingness to defend our freedoms to our death.

10. Hmmm...maybe civil rights, freedom from unreasonable searches |
|
and seizures?
Think a country would cherish that?
