KUDOS to Barbra Streisand
Edited on Mon May-29-06 08:45 PM by Yollam
For Keeping Informed

For Keeping Active

And for Slugging back at Right Wing Nuts who Regularly Smear her with lies - Matt Drudge in Particular.

I Salute Ms. Streisand for her Patriotism this Memorial Day.

A Continuing Lie

I am so sick of talk show hosts who say things like "everyone thought that there were WMDs in Iraq at the time of the invasion." That is just not true! And I am frustrated at Democrats for not refuting this claim more forcefully. On April 13, 2006, a moderator on CNN said that no one could have known there were no WMDs in Iraq before going to war. But we did know. There were people in high ranking positions who seriously questioned our intelligence before Bush invaded Iraq.

Scott Ritter, a senior UN's weapons inspector in Iraq until 1998, loudly stated in the media and in front of congress that we were being led astray. In 2002 he stated, "Saddam Hussein had no WMDs -- at least none of any consequence or that posed an imminent danger to the United States. Certainly nothing that would warrant a rushed invasion. We can't go to war based on rhetoric and speculation ... We'd better make sure there is a threat out there worth fighting."

I remember hearing Ritter speak saying even if Saddam had biological weapons at one time, they had a very short shelf life.

Ritter further went on to say after the invasion, that the Bush Administration and the CIA knew all along that the Iraqis had no WMDs and were lying to the Congress and the American people. ...

Ms. Streisand seems to be the one celebrity that the lowbrow radio jocks and comedians all think it's okay to take a shot at. Maybe it's that she's so liberal, or so outspoken, that she carries herself with a poise that probably seems pompous to people with no class, maybe it's because she's so New York, so Jewish, so stubborn.

Whatever it is, I'm glad she never lets them get her down. She'll always be a legend and they'll always be carping little right-wing trash.

1. I don't hear from her often, but I am glad to see that she is speaking out
about Iraq & WMD -- there was an editor of a major newspaper/mag on Majority Report last week (sorry name escapes me) -- and he was arguing with Sam Seder that he just didn't understand how they could've done a better job before the war started.

I was yelling at the radio: RITTER YOU IDIOTS. SCOTT RITTER!!

:grr:

2. I commend Ms. Streisand, even if she's not the first person I think of

on Memorial Day. :-)

She gets a lot of grief from all sides. Kind of reminds me of Randi Rhodes in that regard. Both very strong-willed, strong-minded and assertive women with wide-reaching platforms from which to speak.

She spoke up in the 1980's about the Right-Wings' rise in this nation, and has never stopped. I think that she came to be a target for Hollywood political activism in general for that very reason.

Thank you, Ms. Streisand.

3. The troops, past and present will get plenty of kudos today.
This takes nothing away from that. :)

5. I hear ya'. That's why I decided to jump in.
And I even gave a recommendation to your tribute.

We as Americans have a duty to protect our troops from needless and dangerous ventures by speaking up and speaking out.

Acknowledging a woman who speaks out, a woman who could easily live a charmed life away from the storms of criticism from a deluded, dangerous and ugly Right-Wing and complicit media, is fitting.

She chooses to be an active citizen, and I can imagine that that in itself is an inspiration to the millions who admire her.

10. She apparently gets faxed memos, even legislation from the DNC every day..
...as well as from several senators and congresspeople. She puts in a great deal of time and effort to be informed and support good people.

And those who put her down think that checking "Drudge" a couple times a week and watching O'Lielly now and then keeps them informed enough to vote. :eyes:

7. Kudos to Barbra! They try really hard to bring her down, and she's
brave enough to fight back. It must be really hard for her too, because I hear she's pretty shy.

8. I was guilty, thought that Hussein may have had a couple surprises.

Even then how suicidal could you get? What did it matter? For Saddam to have WMD is like trying to shoot a Grizzly Bear with a 22 you are going to get killed.

If they find a nuclear weapon tomorrow in Iraq it does not justify our invasion or the war. It would prove Saddam was not suicidal.
