So my gas and electric bill in March was $497????? |

Edited on Tue May-30-06 01:07 AM by mcctatas
I'm on a payment plan, so I normally don't even look at the bill, I just pay a set amount every month, but in this month's bill I got a notice that my payments would need to increase by $57 monthly. Long story short, I go back through my bills, and most of them are around $300 this winter, but March.? :wtf:. My house is tiny, and no one is home from 7ish until after 3p.m....I just don't get it.

1. I would call them and ask why |
|
Perhaps they are gearing up for something we don't yet know about...such as the upcoming winter bills. Shoot me now if this is the case.

2. Supply and demand and price gouging can kill your wallet |
|
Fuel prices will have to rise given that demand continues to increase each year relative to demand, but price gouging just compounds the pain further, and it can be difficult to prove price gouging with savvy corporate executives with high-powered attorneys.

Heating is by a common steam-generating furnace. As the price of fuel rose, the manager turned down the heat. From October to March, the building had heat only at night, and then not very much. In March, the heat was turned off completely, though the temperature at night was in the 'teens. They can complain, but they'll be evicted if they do.

How the hell can someone justify that?
The son of a bitch.
I'd like to get ahold of that manager.
I'd leave him naked in the woods in Vermont in February.

11. that's backwards anyway |
|
I always turn my heat as low as it will go at night. When I am in a warm bed under a pile of blankets, I do not need much heat at all. When I am out of bed during the day is when I need at least some heat.

5. I agree with Digit. But.. |
|
maybe with a different twist.
I just discovered I had been paying the Comcast(cable) bill of someone in Stockton, CA.

8. There is something wrong there... |
|
My house is medium (3000 sq. ft), I work from home most days and the wife is always here, we have two AC units (in Texas) that have been running non-stop since April, we consume about 2500KWH/mo and our last bill was just over $230. (The highest this year).
Not sure what is up with you... but I would check your KWH usage and the rate then start asking questions... that sure sounds wrong to me (at least based on my reality).

9. Our energy bills were huge this winter, too, and our house is not |
|
large, and we've taken quite a few measures to conserve. Next year, we will be supplementing with wood through the winter months.
