The cabinet has approved an agreement with Washington to pull 8,000 US troops out of Japan.

The plan involves 8,000 of more than 40,000 US troops in Japan moving to the US territory of Guam, cabinet officials told reporters.

However the government did not indicate how much it should pay for the move and the status of a key US air base on Okinawa.

Previously the government had agreed to pay 6.09 bln usd out of the 10.27 bln usd withdrawal bill but Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said that amount is still open to negotiation.

1. New international theme for America: Get out, just go away. And don't
come back.
