U.S. sends 3,500 more troops to Iraq
BAGHDAD, May 30 (UPI) -- In response to insurgent activity in western Iraq, the U.S. military is deploying 3,500 reserve troops from Kuwait to the area, The Washington Post reports.

The soldiers will deploy in Anbar province, where Sunni tribal leaders had been cooperating with the U.S. military, the report said. However, since the beginning of the year, 11 of the leaders have been killed by insurgents in the regional capital of Ramadi, and last week, U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad told CNN parts of Anbar were fully under insurgent control.

...................

In response, the 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, the main standby reserve force for the 130,000 U.S. troops in Iraq has been activated in Kuwait, the newspaper said.

More cannon-fodder for the lost "war".

5. I think they are mostly from AZ. I read an article about one of the guard
units though that had just gotten back not long ago from Iraq being asked to send all volunteers from that unit.

4. So they are sending more to the region where Haditha is located. hmmm
My husband's unit is getting redeployed as well. In fact, they had to report today and then will head off to a Fort to finish processing. I think they leave in about 4 weeks or so for Iraq. My husband is not going with them this time though. He is retiring and has put his paperwork in 6-7 months ago (as soon as he could). I will not feel completely comfortable until they are gone though!
