Jefferson Raid Supporters: President is using your hatred against Congress
WOW!!! I am surprised so many people don't understand how serious this issue is. This nation is independent of Britain partly because of what happened on the night of Saturday, May 20, 2006. If you don't know that, go pull out a history book and refresh your understanding.

It is pathetic that you lack knowledge of our history and government, and in such a profound way, that you are actually willing to this this pass.

This is not about corruption because there have numerous investigations conducted before without this kind of problem.

You may not trust the Republicans in Congress, you may not even trust the Democrats, but you have to ask yourself why so many scholars of the US Constitution are up in arms over this, they simply have nothing to gain by defending Congress.

Don't let your hatred of corruption destroy our nation. Our President used our hatred of the terrorists to take a part of our freedom away. Now he is using hatred to take the power of Congress away. Hatred and fear are the weapons of the tyrant, they are the only things that can completely blind people to the truth. The truth is democracy. All throughout history leaders have used hatred and fear to blind people of the fact that 500 people are far more powerful the 1 person. In this case we are being blinded to the fact that 535 people are far more powerful than 1. Don't be blinded, you deserve better.

2. Congress has not been sticking up for the people
The 4th Amendment is trampled by wiretapping, the executive uses tax money to pay for propaganda, gov't funds are used to pay services derived from no-bid contracts, etc.

But NOW, when one of their own is in trouble, they decide to stand up.

It is NO wonder the people are deaf to the outcry.

4. I completely agree, they should have done something when it was
the average joe losing some freedom, but that doesn't mean we should oppose them at this juncture. We need to support them and keep people from talking about the other implications, which simply don't matter.

I think Jefferson is a crook, and I hope he is punished to the fullest extent of the law, but he is also a Congressman and has certain protections when it comes to Congressional document, which it is highly likely were included in the materials taken from Rep. Jefferson's office.

3. I don't support it
I'm still trying to understand why it's okay for the Executive Branch to raid a Congressional office, ostensibly because a Congressman accused of a felony didn't respond to a subpeona for documents, while the Executive Branch itself -- accused of far worse in multiple cases -- continues to refuse to respond to any number of court orders for documents without incident.

It's BS.

5. This morning on Today James Carville said that it was justified
because Lincoln hadn't responded to subpoenas for the last 60 days. Regardless of the truthfulness or impact of that statement, I got the impression he was trying to avoid discussion of the issue. That led me to believe that he thinks that the more this issue is discussed, the more there is to benefit the Rethuglicans by having this topic upfront with a Dem at the epicenter. If that is how he wants to play this then I disagree with him. We should never sweep away the mis-deeds of one of our own for political expediency - Dems should be above the behavior of the Republimafia.

6. That is exactly the way I feel as well, this is too important to be...
political. Fuck politics, the office people want to run for could be meaningless if this isn't stopped now. You have got to realize just how serious, and I mean like so serious it may determine whether our nation exists in a couple of years.

7. Many people here don't seem to realize that putting this kind
of power in the hands of the executive branch would allow them to use it selectively -- against only their political enemies.

As appears to be the case here. The first time in history it has ever been done and the target is a member of the opposition party.
