22. The founding fathers knew this could happen, that is why they wrote
the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
They set government up to protect the people from tyrants like the bu$h regime.
Where they failed was realizing how technology would allow a dangerous gang to steal the republic.
They also never visualized the complacency of the citizens that would stand by and even blindly support the take over of the nation.

I can't remember from history classes but didn't one of the founding fathers say that the only way the American experiment would fail would be from within. Anyone recall that from a quote or something.

I am sure if Washington were alive today, he would be leading up another group of revolutionaries to restore our democracy as they intended.

23. Actually, I think that's what they DID think.

They also never visualized the complacency of the citizens that would stand by and even blindly support the take over of the nation.

That's why they wrote in all of the protections in the Constitution against possible abuses of power. Why they didn't even trust the people to elect the president (or Senators), directly.

Too bad Bush has simply ignored those protections, while the Repugs have stood by. (Oh right - Madison wrote against political factions. I wonder why...)
