7. I smell the Heritage Foundation backing this ad, Big Oil's favorite "think
tank." They think only of greed and money.

10. OK, now I'm seeing a trend--pukes are comparing Dems inc. Gore to Nazis
lately. O'Leilly, Annut Coulter, InsHannity and some Faux News guy named Burnett are in on this Nazi name-calling.

I just hope FBI storms Faux News soon on some tip that it's really an illegal RW propaganda unit paid for by BushCo.

13. bwahaha, Al Gore for Arch-Druid! This CEI head is a real wiseass

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060517/us_nm/environment_ads_dc

'RUNNING FOR ARCH-DRUID'

Fred Smith, president of the institute, a lobbying group closely allied to the Bush administration that stresses limited government regulation and a free-market approach to environmental issues, said he had seen the film and found it "very alarmist," although well-produced.

"There's a lot of pictures of Al Gore pensively looking into the sunset," Smith said. "I don't think he's running for president, but he might be running for arch-druid."

I kind of like it---Al Gore for arch-druid and Fred Smith for arch Bush-drool.

14. thread here today on Ifill/PBS' pandering to the CEI in anti-Gore segment
Edited on Tue May-30-06 08:13 PM by Gabi Hayes
I don't have it, but they linked this:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200605250007

Summary: In a segment on Al Gore's global warming campaign, PBS' Gwen Ifill noted that "critics have called Gore 'alarmist,' " before airing a clip of an ad produced by the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), which she identified only as a "Washington think tank." But Ifill did not mention that CEI is a conservative institution largely funded by the energy industry, which has a financial stake in opposing policies that seek to combat climate change.
In a May 24 segment on former Vice President Al Gore's current campaign to raise awareness about climate change, PBS' The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer anchor Gwen Ifill noted that "critics have called Gore 'alarmist' " and aired a clip from a recent television advertisement produced by the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), which she identified only as a "Washington think tank." But Ifill did not inform viewers that CEI is a conservative institution largely funded by the energy industry, which has a financial stake in opposing policies that seek to combat climate change. Moreover, Ifill ignored that, in the ads, which downplay the threat of global warming, CEI misrepresents several scientific studies.

As Media Matters for America has noted, CEI has received substantial funding from the fossil fuel industry, including more than $2 million from the Exxon Mobil Corporation since 1998. As a March 19 Washington Post article reported, "The Competitive Enterprise Institute, which widely publicizes its belief that the earth is not warming cataclysmically because of the burning of coal and oil, says Exxon Mobil Corp. is a 'major donor' largely as a result of its effort to push that position."

.................

From the May 24 edition of PBS' The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer:

GORE: We have to tear the mask away. Labeling this a political issue is just another way of saying it's insignificant. This is the most crucial challenge that any of us have ever faced, and it's happening in our lifetimes.

IFILL: Some critics have called Gore "alarmist," as in this ad released by the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a Washington think tank.

NARRATOR: Carbon dioxide. They call it pollution. We call it life.

also, importantly, a link from media matters to the SCIENTIST whose study on the supposed "thickening of the Antarctic ice sheet"---he says that CEI (and LOTS of others, whom he doesn't mention) are completely distorting his findings to support their mendacious assertions about the lack of Global Warming, when, in fact, what he found supports the predictions he made:

16. my email to Gwen Ifill and PBS:

Dear Gwen/Washington Week:

I like your show very much and watch it often; however, the article above at mediamatters.org does point out you missed the fact that CEI is not just a conservative think tank but gets millions of dollars in funding from Exxon Mobil (exxonsecrets.org). Furthermore, CEI's director and the Republican mouthpieces including O'Reilly, Hannity, Coulter and Fox's Burnett are referring to Al Gore, Dems and Dem policies as Hitler, Nazis, Goebbels and the like. (I found many references on the web by typing the keywords: "Al Gore and Hitler references." This appears to be a well organized GOP smear campaign to stop Gore and the Dems who are gaining momentum.

I hope you will point these facts out in your next show.
