Gore: Bush is 'renegade rightwing extremist'

Al Gore has made his sharpest attack yet on the George Bush presidency, describing the current US administration as "a renegade band of rightwing extremists".

In an interview with the Guardian today, the former vice-president calls himself a "recovering politician", but launches into the political fray more explicitly than he has previously done during his high-profile campaigning on the threat of global warming.

Denying that his politics have shifted to the left since he lost the court battle for the 2000 election, Mr Gore says: "If you have a renegade band of rightwing extremists who get hold of power, the whole thing goes to the right."

with must see Moveon speeches. I would think they are still at the Moveon site.

Here's a link to a site ElectGore2008. There are many speeches listed there of him criticizing the sociopath administration.

40. Don't give up yet!
I'm guessing he couldn't say anything yet because A) he's trying to promote his movie right now which would surely be some sort of conflict of interest, and B)wouldn't you think he might be waiting to see how the fall elections go? He'd truly be crazy to announce so early in the game, I think...

Al Gore is a guy who seems to sincerely want to do his best for humanity. Hopefully if we keep letting him know he is the BEST CHOICE humanity has to lead us out of the hellhole of B*shworld, he'll do it.

15. It's great to hear Gore keep speaking out
I'm glad to hear Gore "striking back" against Bush's disastrous Presidency but WHERE was "Gore 2.0" during the 2000 Presidential campaign? Why didn't he run again in 2004? Like with Kerry NOW hitting back against the odious "Swift Boat Veterans," I think it's great but why couldn't each of them have fought back during their respective campaigns WHEN IT WOULD'VE MADE A DIFFERENCE???? Did they simply underestimate Bush or were they held back or led astray by their so-called "consultants"? Gore may have legitimately underestimated Bush and genuinely believed that, no matter what, the American people would never elect somebody as obviously unintelligent and unqualified to the Presidency but after what happened during the 2000 election and Bush's (s)-election, Kerry and the Democratic Party SHOULD have known what they were up against but the Bush campaign, utilizing the "Swift Boat Smear Crew," the complicity of the MSM, and the failure of Kerry and other Democrats to effectively respond to them, SEVERELY undercut Kerry's campaign. Why do our Democratic leaders only seem grow a spine when they are out of office or not actively campaigning for office? :argh:

30. I think in 2000 nobody expected the depths to which BushCo would sink
Politics is a dirty game, of course, but it got even dirtier since he had the governor and secretary of state of Florida campaigning for him and his dad's Supreme Court in his pocket.

Also, those damn political advisors... what is it with Democratic presidential candidates and their clueless advisors?

(From the Guardian article: )
{Gore} has since acknowledged that he followed too closely the advice of his consultants during that campaign, and - before he started to scoff at the idea of running again - swore that if he ever did so, he would speak his mind.

It surprised me because before that sort of thing was considered taboo.

I trust that they are doing this on purpose and that they know what they are doing. I think there is some planning behind what they are doing.

Clinton from foreign soil. While Clinton and Richard Clarke were fighting terrorists, Cheney was trotting the globe during wartime whining that the President of the United States would not let him and Halliburton make shitpiles of money from terrorist regimes.

During a trip to the Middle East in March 1996, Cheney told some U.S. businessmen that Congress should ease sanctions in Iran and Libya to foster better relationships with those countries.

"Let me make a generalized statement about a trend I see in the U.S. Congress that I find disturbing, that applies not only with respect to the Iranian situation but a number of others as well," Cheney said at the time. "I think we Americans sometimes make mistakes...There seems to be an assumption that somehow we know what's best for everybody else and that we are going to use our economic clout to get everybody else to live the way we would like."

http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0722-02.htm

And if the wingnut replies we weren't at war when Cheney made these speeches in the late '90s, tell him maybe he wasn't, but Clinton was. Thirty-eight days after Clinton first took office the World Trade Center suffered its first terrorist attack (take note that Clinton did not blame the attack on the failures of the Bush, sr. admin that had just left office). Clinton then made fighting terrorism a priority of his presidency, and there was no other attack on American soil from Islamic extremists during the subsequent eight years (there were, however, numerous terrorist attacks in America from various rightwing groups--Oklahoma City, militias, abortion clinics, etc.). While Clinton was fighting terrorists, the only war the wingnuts were fighting was over Clinton's penis. It wasn't, of course, until nine months after junior and Cheney seized power that we were attacked again in the U.S. by foreign terrorists.

34. Maybe Gore will get to see a copy of the 323 page plan for Iraq's oil
Edited on Wed May-31-06 01:03 PM by EVDebs
mentioned in Greg Palast's article

Bush Didn't Bungle Iraq, You Fools
THE MISSION WAS INDEED ACCOMPLISHED
http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=483&row=1

which tells us

"""It's about oil," Robert Ebel told me. Who is Ebel? Formerly the CIA's top oil analyst, he was sent by the Pentagon, about a month before the invasion, to a secret confab in London with Saddam's former oil minister to finalize the plans for "liberating" Iraq's oil industry. In London, Bush's emissary Ebel also instructed Ibrahim Bahr al-Ulum, the man the Pentagon would choose as post-OIF oil minister for Iraq, on the correct method of disposing Iraq's crude.

And what did the USA want Iraq to do with Iraq's oil? The answer will surprise many of you: and it is uglier, more twisted, devilish and devious than anything imagined by the most conspiracy-addicted blogger. The answer can be found in a 323-page plan for Iraq's oil secretly drafted by the State Department. Our team got a hold of a copy; how, doesn't matter. The key thing is what's inside this thick Bush diktat: a directive to Iraqis to maintain a state oil company that will "enhance its relationship with OPEC." ""

The CIA's Robert Ebel may end up being prosecuted (or at least persecuted) by the BFEE for letting these inconvenient facts out into the public domain.

Gore has better access to that document in the UK than here in the US where whistleblowers are now under a Bush-inspired hunting "open season" without a permit.

The open question the world still needs to know is WTF are we doing in Iraq ? What IS the mission ?
