I have got to post a positive moment.
My birthday was this weekend. We had a barbeque to celebrate. It was a mixed crowd of Dems and Repugs, and my freeper family. My wingnut Aunt was talking about the war, which she thinks is no "big deal," and gas prices. She was immediately attacked and Bush was completely evicerated by the Republicans! I kid you not. At one point she said, "who is to blame for this and the Republicans answered as one "Bush"! It was a thing of beauty. We ARE going to win in November!

2. I wished I shared your enthusiasm
I don't trust a repuke to ever do the right thing. It just doesn't compute for them.

Glad you had a great party though. :toast:

3. Happy birthday, fellow Gemini!
Mine was Sunday, but we had the barbecue yesterday. My guests were unanimously anti-*, but they always have been, including the children. You got a nice present!

7. The war is "no big deal?" Did anyone ask her if she thought that the
families of the dead or maimed thought it was "no big deal?"

Glad to hear that the discussion turned out the way it did. Cheered me up.

15. Sure, it's "no big deal" when you don't have to fight in it!
She has that in common with the male chickenhawks. She knows damn well that the draft or recruiters ain't comin' for her middle-aged female behind any time soon!

8. Happy Birthday, Saracat.
That's great news. Seems like some of them are turning, and we only need some of them.
Luckily, the righties in my family STFU when they see me coming. If it ain't liberal, we ain't talking.
Makes for better parties.

9. unfortunately, Bush is not running in November
If Republicans want to blame Bush, it sounds like they are exonerating their Republican Senators and Congressmen. Those are the people they need to vote against this November. They are the ones enabling Bush.

10. Not really. They are disgusted with the Reugs who supported this war and
the "Bush Doctrine". Most of these people will either vote Dem or stay home. BTW, the Repugs are the most enthusiastic supporters of my DH who is a State Senate candidate. They havegiven us both more money and support than the Dems, and we live in a Repug dominated district. I have high hopes!

21. Here's hoping he'll be running--from the tar and feathers brigade!
And I agree with you. I'll be out to vote AGAINST (how's that for negativity?) those repuke bastards. Germans even now bear the stigma of having once housed the Nazi horror. Similarly, republicans must long bear the stigma of having housed the Bush horror.

18. Well, a lot of states , including mine , are making an issue of that too!
I haven't forgotten, but I am pleased to have something positive to say as opposed to being gloomy all the time. I have to have some hope for crying out loud. We can win this and I am NOT going to obsess about the negatives! I am working on election reform as well as elections. My DH is running for office and that is all I can do! Why be miserable?

20. I understand your sentiment. Really. :)
Good news IS welcome. I just hope the republicans realize their whole party--not just shrub--has gone schizo. My Republican family embraces the "values" of the current administration, so talking with them does no good. :(

14. Hope you're right, but I thought we'd win in '04
Hey, our wingnut friend came to visit us this past weekend. It's only because he's such a long-time, dear friend that we even put up with him at this point.

So he's sitting at the table, and he's sort of switched, nowadays, from vigorously defending Bush and all things republican, to "aw, hell, they're ALL corrupt, it's a cesspool, this has been going on since LOOONNNG before Bush."

Yeah, I've heard that one before--

So I think back to 1998. I remember *I* used to watch FoxNews, and YES, I was one of the idiots screaming for Clinton's head. (The bigger head, not the littler one.) Let's just say that, er, several years of the Glorious Republican Bush Cheney Patriotic Revolution have somewhat, er, changed me.

So I remember how in 1998, whenever a democrat on the screaming cable shows would say, "Look, let's put this in perspective... this is not the first scandal Washington has ever seen, nor is it the first sex scandal we've ever seen" and all the frothing wingnuts would jump on him/her and scream, "OH, SO IT'S THE EVERYBODY-DOES-IT DEFENSE!!!"

So I said to my wingnut friend (and to the other more rational people at the table), "Here we have the 'EVERYBODY-DOES-IT' Defense of Bush/republicans-- hey, our buddy Wingnut got that one from the Clinton supporters!"

Our wingnut friend was not pleased and vigorously denied that he was trying to excuse the mind-boggling repuke corruption by saying "everybody does it". He didn't sound very convincing, though.

(Never mind what happened when he tried that bit about "the Abramoff scandal includes both democrats and republicans." I eviscerated him on that one and forced him to admit that it was ONLY republicans in that one. Gee, it's so fun relaxing and chilling with your friends...)

They need to start packing now. Soon we will win, impeach and bring the troops home to stop the terror and destruction we are causing in Iraq and Afghanastan.

,...attempted to get a political battle started with the most gross of remarks, "they're all subhuman" (and my family is a mix/blend).

 Everyone looked at him like he was a freak! Even my brother-in-law who's heavy in our defense didn't respond.

It was,...loverly. One of those brief moments of joy you can NOT resist but savor, with such delight.

On edit: I just loathe stupid english,...even though I engage all the time,...but, try to clean up some even though I'm just a "rural" girl.
