Bush’s Personal Aide To Enroll at Business School

Gottesman, college dropout and former beau to Bush daughter, to begin in the fall

Published On Monday, May 22, 2006 2:12 AM

By PARAS D. BHAYANI

Crimson Staff Writer

A 26-year-old college dropout who carries President Bush’s breath mints and makes him peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches will follow in his boss’s footsteps this fall when he enrolls at Harvard Business School (HBS).

Though it is rare for HBS—or any other professional or graduate school—to admit a student who does not have an undergraduate degree, admissions officers made an exception for Blake Gottesman, who for four years has served as special assistant and personal aide to Bush.

Gottesman, a Texas native who attended Claremont-McKenna College in California for one year, has long had ties to the Bush family. He dated the president’s daughter, Jenna Bush, nearly ten years ago when he attended St. Andrew’s Episcopal School of Austin.

After completing his freshman year at Claremont in 1999, he left to join the Bush presidential campaign and later served as a junior aide to former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card. In February 2002, he became the president’s personal assistant. In his current role, Gottesman performs a wide range of duties, from dog-sitting the president’s Scottish terriers, Barney and Miss Beazley, to carrying the president’s speeches and giving him the “two-minute warning” before a speech begins.

Well, er, Blake, that "two-minute warning" thing still needs a bit of tweaking, I believe...

Does this mean there may be an arranged marriage in the offing? Could the Fist Family be preparing young Blake as a possible mate for their Jenna? He's gotta have CREDENTIALS, ya know! Being admitted to Harvard Business School in spite of being too stupid to get a bachelor's degree is a FINE start for anyone who might be a candidate to join the Bush Family of Kennebunkport...

What the hell is it with these wingnuts, rightwing minions, etc., that makes them go on to, like, lucrative cable shows, or radio shows, or fancy silk-stocking business schools in spite of never having been able to pass the simple upper middle-class rite of passage of getting a frikkin' BACHELOR'S degree??? Fucker Carlson, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity... the list goes on and on.

Anyone w/o a bachelor's, please excuse me. I don't necessarily think everyone needs one, or should want one, or whatever. It's just that when I see some guy on TeeVee who's supposed to be some real smart guru type whom I'm supposed to listen to and bow down to, I just kind of expect that he ought have at least as much education as a peon like me has.

2. If I had attended HBS, and hadn't gotten around to returning my diploma
when * was selected, I would sure as hell be doing so now.

agreed--what the HELL was that little creep doing dating a 12-13 year old? I don't care if he was 16--what the HELL was wrong with. . . .never mind!!!

In the trash with the breath mints.

4. I guess it's kind of like when the wizard gave the Scarecrow his
certificate: "Scarecrow, with this certificate, I pronounce you to be a certified Doctor of Thinkology!"

Isn't that the one Bush got? Doctor of Thinkology? (Or was it Truthiness?)

7. They're 24, 25 in November
Sounds like they dated when they were 15 - 16.

But yeah, why all this upper class affirmative action. They get a free pass into any college they want, and then when they flunk out, they get a free pass on their education when nobody else does. I sure don't get it.

9. how will he know what the hell his professors might be talking about
when they get into high finances if he doesn't have a hell of a base to stand on? or, is it that HBS
just likes to give out degrees as long as they get good freaking dollars for the papers they are printed on?

counting beans is not the same as making freaking peanut butter sandwiches...it never was and it will never be.

12. Actually, I'd like to think this is positive, at least for me
>Anyone w/o a bachelor's, please excuse me.<

I didn't finish my BA. I actually had to go to work instead. I'm happy to know that my life experience will now qualify me to be admitted into Harvard Business School. I'm sure they'll be handing me all kinds of financial aid, too. After all, I was smart enough NOT to go to work for *.

I've always had a warm feeling in my heart for the color crimson ;-). See you all in Cambridge! :woohoo:

Julie
If Harvard alums aren't pissed about this, they need to be...
