Rick Warren and this damnable video game is bogus linkage
The only link beteen te two is that one of the guys who works with Warren also sits on the advisory board of the developer/marketer of the game.

The international director of Mr. Warren's Purpose Driven Church, Mark Carver, is a former investment banker who serves on the Advisory Board of the corporation created in October 2001 to develop and market this game. The creators plan to market their game using the same network marketing techniques that Mr. Warren used to turn The Purpose Driven Life into a commercial success. For example, they plan to distribute their merchandise through pastoral networks, especially mega-churches.

I have no use for the game and little theological use for Warren but the link showing Warren's involvement here is specious. The linkage is worthy of the GOP Spin machine.

I alwo would hardly called Warren a Dominionist. If you are going to criticize Church leaders how about a little research? The link here is nothing but guilt by assoiciation! THE GUY SITS ON AN ADVISORY BOARD OF THE GAME DEVELOPER THAT HARDLY QUALIFIES AS WARREN SUPPORTING THE GAME.

Warren is pastor of Saddleback Church. He has written two largely sucessful, but apolitical books about leading a purposeful life. It is theological pablum but its largely unobjectionable.

If anyone read through the entire article it takes some huge jumps in logic to conclude that Warren is the the head of the dominionist movement. I think it is a largely deluded essay by someone obsessed with trying to associate anyone he can with the DOminionist movement. He basically paints Warren through logical fallacy in about four ways.

Now having said that, Domminionist are a real threat and the game developers need to be takien to the wood shedI wish the Church would stand uo and say something about. To shoot this down Church heavyweights will need to step up. Billy Graham and Jummy Carter ought to speak up about it.

This is a wedge issue withing the Church to be sure. My fear is that in doing so.. it would create buzz about the game and more of the Church's right wing would be curious rather than shocked.

1. Thanks for the excellent explanation.
Now I'll only consider Warren a sellout. I hope he has a worthy purpose for the money.

2. Fine. When Warren severs his ties with Carver,
or when Carver resigns from that advisory board, I might be inclined to give one or the other the benefit of the doubt.

But a person on an advisory board advises. Did Carver advise against this Grand Theft Auto - Dominionism? Is blowing away Jews and Muslims a good message to be distributed through the mega-church network, using the same outlets as The Purpose Driven Life? Does that squishy, feel-good pseudo theology want to be tied to violent extremism?

There IS a direct link -- and someone along that link needs to expressly sever it to get any break from me.

4. Their not using his mailing list for cripes sake
Just the same technique. That is not Warren fault and he should not be held resposnible for it.

Now whould he aske the guy to step down for his Church office.....YES Probably. But from what I read in the article Warren is not to blame for any of this asinine stuff.

3. I don't think Warren is a dominionist, but Dick DeVos is
The thought of Dick DeVos becoming governor of Michigan is a scary one. Hopefully, those Amway factories in China will come back to haunt him before Nov., especially in light of his ads claiming that he had the opportunity to move his business out of Michigan and chose not to.
