WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Wednesday said that if an investigation turns up evidence of wrongdoing by U.S. Marines in the killings of civilians in the Iraqi town of Haditha, there will be punishment.

"I am troubled by the initial news stories," Bush said. "I am mindful there is a thorough investigation going on. If in fact laws were broken there will be punishment."

Yeah right, just like he vowed to punish the leakers in the Plame case?

ARRRGG!!!!! Why did 49% of my fellow Americans vote for this asshole?!?!?!?!

(edited for typo)

9. MAN ...
I just had an exchange with some repuke on a general board ... Typical rat jumping repuke right now who did the, "I voted for Bush both times not because I thought he was all that good, but because he was the lesser of two evils" BS ...

WHY IS IT that everyone who voted for Gore or Kerry did so because they flat knew he was the better man, while millions of sheeple voted for a complete idiot based on the "lesser of two evils" meme ...

Jesus Christ ...

That being said ... As to the origional post ... Of course there are going to be people who are held accountable to the law ... The grunts, disposable that they are to this guy, will DEFINITELY be held accountable, while those higher ups involved will be held accountable only to the extent that the feeble minded MSM can focus on it - see Ghrab, Abu ... AND, of course, as long as it means none of the chickenhawks being held accountable, which it doesn't cause it happened where the bullets are flying ...

2. Careful parsing of words..."if in fact laws were broken"....
They'll just make sure that technically no laws were broken. Forget about the laws of human decency.

4. Who besides the greedy and deluded believe him anymore?
Well the greedy probably don't believe him, but they don't care so long as he continues to give them their not needed and undeserved tax cuts. The deluded have a hard time seeing him for what he is, a pathological and self serving LIAR!

20. Just like Abu Ghraib, it will be a few bad apples and the only ones
to be punished at all will be low ranking soldiers. Their officers will not be held accountable.

for everyone.

Jesus - it would be better if he kept his mouth shut. Now everybody is going to know the fix is in. They will nail some Sargent's hide to the wall and pretend that they have done their job. And they will hurt themselves patting themselves on the back about how they have done the right thing. And meanwhile in Iraq more will die everyday.

on edit can't spell.

12. Death toll at My Lai was 540
and the only US casualty was a soldier shot himself in the foot while cleaning his gun.

Lt Calley , the only soldier convicted , was parolled from a life sentence and all charges against the officer in charge were dropped. Same shit will happen here I guess.

13. Pat Tillman's family believe that the cover-up and the attempt to glorify
his death for political purposes, happened at the highest levels. Many believe that Rumsfeld was aware of the facts surrounding his death, but before the election they wanted to paint a heroic picture of Bush's war.

There is no way the SOD didn't know about this and other atrocities that have been reported on since this war began. Abu Ghraib was not news to independent reporters, eg. Robert Fisk had reported on claims of torture by family members of detainees long before it was reported here.

I would bet that the orders to cover it up came from the top ~ Rummy and his cabal see these things as annoyances to be swatted away like flies. If he didn't know about it, he should have and either way he needs to be fired immediately. He should have been fired after Abu Ghraib. The fact that he wasn't made it obvious that torture was a policy of this administration. Bush cannot fire those who are doing the job he hired them to do.

14. Look for the signing memo
In the small print: "No member of the armed services, their superiors or the commander in chief may be charged, investigated, tried, convicted or in any other way inconvenienced just because of bunch of little sand niggers who might have gotten their heads blown off by a few excitable boys."

16. Hmmm, what kind of punishment.
Will he wear a hair shirt under his suit? Will he stick a cattle prod up his own ass.
Will he get paxil to tazer himself in the balls?

Will he hold a large party and drink and feed his supporters on taxpayer dime?

The buck stops somewhere in a sea of murderous anarchy.

God, i know you don't do prayers, but can you please:
drive him in to the earth like a nail with your hammer,
29% is still showing.

18. "there will be punishment?"
Does that include Rumsfailed? His mismanagement has put undue pressure on those troops. He and the Impostor have contributed to their feelings of anger that may have caused them to break and kill the Iraqis in Haditha.

This entire war/invasion was based on a lie. Heads at the top need to roll as well as the grunts at the bottom.
