Dixie Chicks Radio Station Airplay Query:
What percentage of Country stations are playing them? All? Most? Some? None?

I thought I'd heard that the Chicks have renounced their country music roots and I guess just consider themselves musicians now, but most Americans still probably have them pegged as a "country" act.

I didn't think the playlist blackballing involved any stations outside of country stations.

Any DU country music radio listeners care to comment?

1. Around me, none
I have not heard it on a single station here. My daughter listens to country, she says they're blacklisted on all her country stations.

7. I don't know?
I have no idea what is and isn't clear channel. There is just so much local animosity, the stations would be boycotted if they played the Chicks.

2. The video "Not Ready to Make Nice" aired a few days
on CMT. It was early one morning and I was zipping through the channels and there it was. Shock.

4. According to Billboard they topped the Country Albums chart...
...as well as the #1 on the Top 200...

-snip

And while country radio has remained cool to the group in the wake of a 2003 boycott following comments group member Natalie Maines made about President Bush, "Taking the Long Way" also nabs the No. 1 spot on the Country Albums chart, bumping Rascal Flatts' "Me and My Gang" (Lyric Street/Hollywood) down to No. 2 after seven weeks at the top.

Apparently some country music fans are buying the CD, so they're hearing them somewhere...

17. This is like the Oh Brother record
in that it was a huge hit that never got play on radio because it didn't fit the format. Even won some awards, showing how out of touch radio is to the audience. I think we'll see the same thing here. No airplay, lots of sales and probably many awards. Country radio uniformly sucks. They play shit music while enforcing their fake patriot bullshit. Who needs it anymore anyway?

5. Dixie Chicks album - 4 stars
"country music" radio = lite rock for illiterate inbreds. At least around here. The ads are aimed at dumber dumshits than the rock stations. And what they play sure ain't what I call country music.

22. Oops sorry I didn't really answer the question
I made a real effort to listen to the dipshit "country" station here for 3 or 4 hours while I was doing some yard work today and did not hear 'em once. I asked my son in law who always has that crap on in his car and he said hew didn't know the Chick had a new album out. So my guess is they aren't gettin much play on "country" radio. But who gives a flying fuck - they're on the coover of Time or Newsweek, they appear on Larry King, they were on 60 minutes. I think the whole deal is a very clever marketing move on the part of the Chicks who have coreectly sensed the anti * mood in the country and are capitalizing on it while the SCLM are three years behind what people really think.

23. "Clever marketing move on the part of the Chicks?" How can you
say something like this when they were among the only (very few) successful artists to come out and speak against Bush when it was totally NOT the "mood of the country" and created a massive PR and propaganda backlash against themselves, in 2003? LOL!

8. I heard the song yesterday on a radio station in of all places
the San Diego area of CA - very Repub down there. I was visiting my Marine nephew and his wife and made both of them stop what they were doing and listen. My nephew is a cool Marine - he knows bushit when he hears it and his wife is a really open-minded true Christian - both are very compassionate and they tolerate my rantings so I try to tone it down around them. As he explained to me when he went to Iraq "it's my job" and I have to accept that cause he's been a Marine for almost 20 years, but, again, a really good one.

10. Was it a country station, or a popular music/top 40 type station?

Does that count?

I don't listen to mainstream radio.

15. It's a TV show, silly!
It was on while I was working on my paper - I liked the song playing and waited for the ending to see who it was and - voila! - Dixie Chicks.

12. They're getting a LOT of play on the local college station
In fact, I think I've heard most of the CD by now.

The commercial stations (Clear Channel crapola) aren't even programmed into my receiver, so I have no idea what they're doing.

Thanks to all college stations in the country, islands of sanity in a corporate wilderness.

14. "Country" stations are doing online polls night and day and their
"Listeners" are telling them they will NEVER COME BACK IF THEY EVER EVER PLAY THE CHICKS AGAIN.

Meanwhile, the Chicks just knocked Rascal Flatts out of the Number One positions on the "Country" charts. And then there's that SMALL MATTER of debuting at NUMBER FUCKING ONE on the overall Top 200 Billboard Charts.

FEARLESS PREDICTION: "Country" radio will NOT play the Dixie Chicks again. It's easier to ignore the real world and wave the flag. Takes a LOT less actual thinking.

16. The Chicks just showed how irrelevant "Country" radio really is
More and more people are getting their music info from sources other
than empty hat country stations. Internet, satellite broadcasts, My
Space, plenty of places to go to find out what is really going on.

21. I heard Lubbock is pissed
about "Lubbock or Leave It." What a bunch of whiny-assed hypocrites. Natalie NAILED Lubbock to the crucifix skyline. And she has a right and is right. She grew up there.
