12. Oil will be around.
Get rid of the things that use oil and the problem is highly delayed.

3. While the concept of an electric car is cool,
there is no way it would have caught on until (or unless)
it could get all the way from Los Angeles to Las Vegas on
one charge (or an under-ten-minute recharge).

Until then, I'll stick with my four-year-old Prius.

5. The DU auto Company
The DU electric car company. Well what do you think? All the DU members joining together to start making electric car for sale he in the USofA, it's a cash cow that could save our country and we could do it!

Ok, i'm open to ideas on how to get this new company started. Let's here from some venture capital investment folks here at DU on how to start this company, someone needs to do it and it could be us, hell it should be us.

Peace!

8. an all electric car is NOT practical
it needs to be charged by your house current, and how do you think that energy is produced

In Europe they have Diesel cars that get 70 miles per gallon

Incidently, I have two Prius autos, first and second generation, and they are self-sufficent, i.e. they do NOT need house current

The ones to blame are the consumers. That is rapidly changes as more and more hybrids are being sold

9. But electricity can be produced cleaner than gas, can't it?
What about those lucky enough to have solar panels? I'm hoping this technology becomes cheaper really soon because I'd love to "go solar".

:hi: to another Prius owner. I love mine. :)

11. I agree with you, but it still has to be more cost effective
than it is now

Well, that's what the auto industry tell us, so we can believe them, that's what the oil companies tell us, and they have no reason to lie, that's what their experts tell us...and we know they would never think of fixing data...

Many owners of the cars that I've read and have known say the contrary, they were "quiet, efficient, cost effective, fast and non polluting".

EVEN if it cost exactly the same as a gas vehicle...wouldn't it be better than the pollution (sound & air) than the gas guzzlers and the money going to alternative vehicles ( instead of the oil companies) would only make the vehicles better and more efficient as time went on!!

The auto & oil industry knew this very well, so just kill it before it really gets started and takes hold...Spread the propaganda the cars aren't cost effective...that's why they are not around, discourage people from ever doing it again...

Big auto & oil never thought it would get off the ground in the first place for mass consumerism...when it started to, it was KILLED!!

14. listen bud, I OWN TWO PRIUS CARS
FIRST AND SECOND GENERATION

I am as green as they come

Now lets look at the facts, THEY DON'T COST THE SAME

You can buy a Civic internal combustion engine car for about 13 to 15 thousand dollars. It gets about 35-40 MPG

You can also buy a Civic hybrid for about 22 thousand dollars and get about 45 mpg. If you live in California both cars run very clean.

Now when joe q public looks at the 5 to 7000 dollars more, it doesn't take rocket science to know what is MORE COST EFFECTIVE

IN ADDITION, DIESEL IS EXTREMELY EFFICIENT. IN FACT IN EUROPE THEY HAVE CLEAN RUNNING DIESELS RUNNING AT ABOUT 60 to 70 MPG

As far as pollution is concerned, that may be what you and I believe, BUT FOR THE EXTRA 5 to 7 grand, that is NOT what the public believes. The Toyota highlander hybrid and the honda accord hybrid have NOT BEEN BIG SELLERS. THEY COST EVEN MORE, and GET EVEN LESS FUEL EFFICIENCY.

I have no doubt that if you had a hybrid and a conventional like car at the same price, MOST PEOPLE WOULD CHOOSE THE HYBRID

The solution is to GET OFF OIL, but unless our government goes in that direction it isn't going to happen

15. You're right. I'd love to have the Highlander as a family car to
haul the kids and sports equipment around in, but the price kept us from it. We went with the Prius and don't regret it a bit.
