News you've never heard.
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20030901/klein

These suspicions stem from a bizarre incident on May 16, 2002, in Davao. Michael Meiring, a US citizen, allegedly detonated explosives in his hotel room, injuring himself badly. While recovering in the hospital, Meiring was whisked away by two men, who witnesses say identified themselves as FBI agents, and flown to the United States. Local officials have demanded that Meiring return to face charges, to little effect. BusinessWorld, a leading Philippine newspaper, has published articles openly accusing Meiring of being a CIA agent involved in covert operations "to justify the stationing of American troops and bases in Mindanao."

Yet the Meiring affair has never been reported in the US press. And the mutinous soldiers' amazing allegations were no more than a one-day story. Maybe it just seemed too outlandish: an out-of-control government fanning the flames of terrorism to pump up its military budget, hold on to power and violate civil liberties.

2. I remember that story.
We were stroking the Philipinos and then announced we were sending combat troops and they told us to go screw ourselves.

3. Yeah, you are right.
There were all these stories how the Philippines was going to be this ally in the so called war on terror and now you don't hear zip about it it. The Philippines merely wanted help in quelling it's own insurgency in Mindanao. It was back when every country that had an armed rebellion going on was labeling their problems "terrorists threats". What a bunch of bullshit.

Why don't you activate your journal and do a Jara Sang retrospective. I have not caught your work lately but it's always mind stretching. I'll even link it on my journal which is somewhat garish and crudely ironic ("A Moderate Perspective;)

8. read a little bit about the Phillipine-American war to find out
why the Filipinos don't want our combat troops there. they have every reason to believe we will never leave, and they have had to shed a lot of blood to get us out before.

9. Mindinao has been a hotbed of insurgency for well over a century.
That doesn't include the Spanish period. Yet we are led to believe that this current insurgency in Mindinao is an offshoot of Al Queda. Yeeeeah-riiiiiight.

10. Ah, that last sentence is the zinger
"Yet the Meiring affair has never been reported in the US press. And the mutinous soldiers' amazing allegations were no more than a one-day story. Maybe it just seemed too outlandish: an out-of-control government fanning the flames of terrorism to pump up its military budget, hold on to power and violate civil liberties.

Why would Americans be interested in something like that?"
