5. DeLay said something similar back then |
|
Or, maybe it was Santorum...
Something like, "I support the troops but I cannot support this failed foreign policy"

.....more I realize just how truly evil they are - these jerks are right up there with Stalin. It was Stalin who perfected the idea of having people killed by the thousands and yet fooled the people into thinking he was their savior.

4. By "Republican Bush Supporter" do you mean an elected one? |
|
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 07:25 AM by bunkerbuster1
Or merely some citizen who continues to self-identify as a "republican" voter?
If the latter, I'd say it's possible to be tragically mistaken, and not evil.
If OTOH you're restricting this to the vile, corrupt men who've scammed their way to elected office via the thug party? No. No fucking way.

7. I wouldn't go quite that far. |
|
I think there are more mis- or dis-informed people out there; and a lot of folks just don't have the inclination to absorb any more news than they happen to encounter while channel- or web-surfing.
Those people might be, in a sense, criminally negligent, but it's surely a sin of omission, not commission.
And anyway, if they're merely ignorant, let's face facts--they're relatively easy to turn to our side, since the facts do have a liberal bias.

...the ones that maybe watch the news once or twice a week and THAT'S IT.
I'm thinking more about the greedheads who pay attention to current events, but find any number of ways to justify voting for POS, whether it be some phony fundie reason, or some phony "security/defense" reason, the truth is they just want to keep their measly $1000 tax cut (or whatever the amount may be). I don't really consider truly ignorant people who say "Yeah, Bush seems okay to me. He's like fighting the terrorist in Iraq right now right?" to be " Bush supporters." Those people are the dolts who keep "American Idol" and "Survivor 12: Talahassee" at the top of the ratings.

Except that I do consider those truly ignorant people who half-heartedly continue to support Bush to be "Bush Supporters," because pollsters do.
Take heart, there ain't very much of them left any more.

I think that one of the worst crimes of the BFEE is taking advantage of the good nature and lack of Political insight among those in middle America. I believe these people have been used and are suffering more for the crimes of this administration more than those of us in Blue States. Their very love of our country was used against them.
30 years ago next week, I started a transcontinental bicycle ride. The people of Kansas were absolutely incredible. Their love for America and their fellow man was a true inspiration. You had to be careful not to take advantage of these kind wonderful people. The BFEE had no qualms about taking advantage of these people for their own fun and extreme profit.
The people of middle America are know starting to wake up. I fear for these people, after being hoodwinked as they have, will they ever be as kind and giving as those people i remember 30 years age.

13. But I would like to add.... |
|
...that I think it's about time that the idea of being a good citizen included more than just paying your bills and taxes, keeping your kids fed, etc. It should also include keeping well-informed on issues on both a local and national scale. Voting and being well-informed should be considered a duty, really.

But Middle America (red States) is bombarded by right wing newspapers, preachers and hate radio. There is a "vast right wing conspiracy" that is taking advantage of these people, they think they are informed. The snake oil salesmen have convinced them that things like gay marriage are more important than global warming.
The tide is turning, thanks to the internet. More and more people have access to the truth.

They are taking advantage of free-speech to put forth this "banner patriotism". This is when you have patriotic symbols everywhere, but your actions are of a person bent on destroying our nation through support of people who would destroy our democracy in the name of "patriotism". They are oxy-morons!

16. NO. This was a hard understanding to come to and somewhat |
|
antithetical to freedom and the concept of the Old United States.
But it is the Old United States they seek to destroy, replacing it with One-Party Bushevik Totalitarianism.
Early on, there were many dupes. No one who is left in the Bushevik Camp now can claim ignorance.
That last 25-38% are scum and traitors and enemies of freedom.
It took quite a bit of "liberal" deliberation to be certain of it. But it is now a certainty.

I think the majority of people who support Bush and the GOP think they are doing it for the right reasons.
But it doesn't say much for their IQ, if they still support them after all that has been coming out.

I should have put a choice that "patriotism is irrelevant - I believe that love for humanity is better and more important that love of country" or something like that.
I love my adopted country and its people as much as I love the US, or the version of the US I grew up in, which now exists only in fantasy - replaced by a right-wing, thuggish oligarchy.

...as some of the Founders must have done, then yeah, a * Republican could be a sort of pseudo-patriot.
He's just defined his country very selectively.
