Tweety: Lindsey Graham was spectacular defending Alito
in a "sacramental" way.

OMG!!!!!!!! What an asswipe Matthews is!! Is it the job of one of the senators to defend a nominee being questioned in front of him??? Matthews said "You don't throw around words like "racist"; NO ONE CALLED Alito a racist, only Graham did!

Good lord, has Matthews gotten that stupid in the last 5 years?? I would LOVE to protest his building, or his home. I cannot stand these tools destroying our democracy.

1. He seems to be rooting for the Republicans in a big way since
his brother is running for office as a Republican in Pennsylvania.

He wants to make sure it isn't a terrible year for the Repubs.

He has been especially terrible on the Abramoff scandal.

3. In terms of generating a helpful media spin he was fantastic
In terms of logic, meaningful discourse or insight he was a pathetic partisan hack.

13. We southerners (I'm in GA) tend to think he's a closeted gay man.
He sets my Gaydar off. I'd like to tell him to come out of the closet and come over to our side: it's more fun over here! ;)

16. I am from Augusta, GA. Graham is as gay as The Wizard of Oz.
Augusta GA borders SC, btw. It's right across the bridge.

I've been hearing about Graham for years.

17. Howdy neighbor! I'm just northeast of you here in Athens, GA.
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 06:25 PM by CottonBear
You know, I was worried his mascara might run when he teared up during the "Are you a closet bigot?" line of questioning at the Alito hearings.

Please read through this thread in the Georgia Forum and help us if you can. The GA GOP is trying to split Athens-Clarke Co. into 2 GOP senate districts. We are currently a one senate seat county and our State Rep., Jane Kidd (daughter of Ernest Vandiver) is running for the seante seat soon to be vacated ny Brain Kemp (R-Athens). This is down and dirty partisan politics at its worst. We need your help! Thanks!

9. There's two things I don't understand.....
1) Why sane, intelligent, rational liberals watch cable news crap.
2) Why after watching it do they get so mad, worked up, and act surprised over it.

Don't turn this shit on. They don't get the ratings and you don't get annoyed. It's a win/win proposition, no? Presumably you'd still be well informed and able to get your news elsewhere.

12. You need to know what they are doing
and what they are thinking.

Example: They are ALL saying that Alito is a done deal; they are ALL saying, bar none, that the Dems do NOT have ANY reason to filibuster. Obviously, they don't read blogs. HAHA! So, when we FILIBUSTER the bigot, they will be totally blindsided, Tweety will be spitting all over the camera, Hannity will be pointing his pen and saying, "Unbelievable."

Know thy enemy.

20. I still don't buy it....
I never turn on any cable news shows and yet I still know what they are saying. There are enough other news outlets to concentrate on without tuning in to the media equivalent of pro-wrestling shows like those on cable news. I know what the spin is based off of newspapers, websites, and the slightly less whorish network news shows. If people want to watch them that's fine and it's a free country. But focusing our efforts and our rage on what some show with an audience equivalent to .01% of the american population just seems counterproductive and indicative of I think a lot of our problem on the left. We're too focused on what they are doing and saying rather than who we are and what we should be saying. As long as we play reactive defense we're going to keep losing.

26. Ignoring Them Handed The Airwaves To Them
While liberals and progressives were "too big" to engage the hate mongers and corporate media types, they used de-regulation, power and money to dominate and control the flow of news and information on American radio and television. A lot of us ignored them and now the truth has little chance of being heard on American corporate media and continues to get worse.

Tweety's lies and distortions are going to go out into millions of home whether you watch it or not. His quotes will be replayed on hate radio stations to millions more while you're listening or not. His words will be reprinted on right wing web sites whether you're reading or not. Ignoring it won't make it go away. Knowing the truth doesn't mean it will get a fair hearing when this tool is being used to propagate lies that become assumed to be true when they go unchallenged.

Turning it off IS reactive defense.

and the Democrats are out of control, out of line, pieces of garbage because they dared, they DARED I tell you, to question the sainted Judge.

and they are insinuating that the Senate Dems are calling Alito racist. I'm tired of this crap.

The grounds for opposing his nomination were eloquently stated by the two gentlemen representing the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the National Bar Association.

====================

Alito says look at his record to judge him. Well, I've looked, and I've judged him to be a racist. So let's just look people in the eye and say, "Yes, Alito is a racist." It isn't up to us to defend calling him a racist; it's up to him to prove he is not despite his piss-poor record of deciding cases against minorities.

14. Yeah there've never been any racists walking around free in the Senate
Matthews said "You don't throw around words like "racist";

So irresponsible--to imply that a racist could get past the doors of the US Senate building. It's just galling.

25. As much as I don't like the way Tweety phrased the comment, you have to
admit, Graham managed to get a very sympathetic public response for Alito with his speech! I don't know that I would ahve called it a spetacular defense, but Graham certainly did accomplish getting a lot of people on Alito's side with his comments.

Try to step outside your dislike for Alito, Tweety, and Graham, and look at the results. I don't know if it was Graham's idea, or someone advising him, but he sure accomplished a good public response for Alito!
