3. The couch cover on the Cry-Day was a bit much!
No wonder she sobbed.

I think Alito's enthusiasm for abrogating the rights of INDIVIDUALS (to get serious for a second) is also a real issue. It isn't just civil rights, it is individual, personal rights he is happily wiping his ass on, and flushing the lot down the crapper.

Dangerous man, dangerous times.

8. Absolutely.
He never once gave a straight answer. He dodged and weaved and blew hot air and lied his ass off. All we know now that we didn't know before is that his wife can cry on cue.

Had some Senator asked him "What's your name?" he would have gone on for five minutes explainiing why it would be inappropriate to give his name. Useless POS.

7. Raised Catholic, 12 years Catholic School
I have a question. Obviously, the man is a staunch Catholic and anti choice. But please explain to me how then, he only has TWO KIDS?????

Did he marry late in life? Did he and his wife experience "fertility" problems? How did they have only two kids using "natural family planning" to SPACE children, not to PREVENT them according to the Catholic Church?

Something is just plain not right here.

over the course of DECADES. That method is even lower than condoms.

17. Probably some form of birth control.
Most American Catholics I know, myself included, use it.

Also, he or his wife (or both) could have had some medical conditions.

I wouldn't want this information public, were I in the same situation. And even if Alito doesn't believe in privacy, I do, so I have to be consistent and say it's none of our business.

21. Does Alito consider forms of birth control to be ABORTION?
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 08:46 PM by HockeyMom
The Pill, Morning After, IUD's? According to his church, they are just as much "abortion" as a D & X at 7 months.

How about barrier methods or sterilization? Considered EVIL by his church, and obviously this Administration too.

If Rome gets it's way with censoring catholic politicians on abortion, why not birth control? Or even divorce for that matter too?

It's also not just Rome with these views either. Just go read any of the policy issues of any of the major Christian Organizations in this country (CWA, Family Research, etc). They are the same as the Vatican.

Then there is the privacy issue at the heart of the legal challenge to Roe. It started with Griswold, which was not about abortion, but birth control for married couples. If they can declare that there is no privacy issue for an abortion, how can there be a privacy issue for birth control? Can you strike down one, without striking down the other? You know they want to challenge the privacy issue for consensual homosexual sex (Lawrence v Texas). It is all based on the same thing. PRIVACY.

Would you like to see states start banning birth control too? Because that is either "abortion" or against "God's Will?" Precisely the same for states crimilazing sodomy. This has the potential to open up so many doors again, in legal terms.

I really suggest you go on some of these christian family websites and really READ what they want to achieve. I think it will SHOCK YOU. Don't say it cannot happen.

19. it happens
I'm very closely related to two people who also went (as did one of their spouses) through 12 years of Catholic school, consider themselves good Catholics, and managed to produce (with the aid of fertility treatments) respectively 1 and 2 children over a number of years. My grandmother, also a devout Catholic, had only 1 child back in the days before birth control. Sometimes things just work out that way.

I disagree with Alito's positions on just about everything: let's slam him for his politics. Ithink his wife has worse clothes sense than Laura, but as long as she's not making me wear that stuff, I let that be her problem.

15. Hmmmm. I went with "no support for civil rights," which is actually
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 07:25 PM by BlueIris
"no support for human rights," but in truth, the thing that bothers me most is that Alito is obviously 100% loyal to Bush for what should be the most obvious reason imaginable. Same reason Roberts is. No, not going to post it for the blissfully unaware or disaffected, but you can PM me if you're curious. Some would say that what's up with Alito isn't relevant to...anything, and in a perfect world, it wouldn't be, no matter what his judicial history is, but to me, it's troubling because it means that he is essentially glued to Bush and Bush's unique stripe of neo-con. Whatever they want, he'll do.

that he will say whatever it takes to get a job. What exactly does he really believe?

That alone would disqualify him, in my opinion.
