Man killed after being run over several times
What is WITH people anymore? :(

===

A 74-year-old Henderson man was killed Thursday after a woman ran over him several times.

Henderson police said Francis John Antolick was traveling west on Sausalito Drive at Racetrack Road, near Boulder Highway and Horizon Drive, when he was rear-ended in a 2000 Toyota Camry by 31-year-old Las Vegas resident Brandy Stackhouse.

Antolick got out of his vehicle and walked over to the 1991 Dodge sedan driven by Stackhouse after the accident, Henderson police spokesman Todd Rasmussen said. Stackhouse then backed up, knocking the man to the ground, and pulled forward in an attempt to leave, Rasmussen said.

Rasmussen said witnesses saw the woman back up a second time into the man, running over him. She then pulled forward and ran over him again, Rasmussen said, before driving away east on Racetrack Road...

1. Damn. It's gotta be personal. But damn.
They didn't say, but I'm sure some kind of substance abuse was involved.

6. Yep, as usual
"Stackhouse was booked on charges of felony voluntary manslaughter, felony driving under the influence resulting in death, felony hit and run, misdemeanor duty to give information to a police officer, and misdemeanor driving without a license..."

Only question I have is why this is considered manslaughter rather than murder. Because she used a car rather than a gun? What's the damn difference -- she purposely killed a man!

7. "driving under the influence resulting in death"
I'd think the driving under the influence resulting in death part is why it's manslaughter rather than murder. If more becomes clear over time they can always upgrade the charges but if they can't show any intent other than a drunk trying to flee the scene of an accident then it's manslaughter rather than murder. Outright murder normally requires intent, not just stupidity, panic or negligence. Gun crimes can be an exception, just picking up the gun shows a willingness to take the next step.

Personally I'd rather see her locked up longer than she'll probably get too. Unless they can show she knew the guy and was after him or something though it'll likely play out as a drunk who had an accident and panicked.

9. Well, here's where I have a problem splitting legal hairs
As far as I'm concerned, folks who are loaded and get behind the wheel of car are exhibiting more than just stupidity -- they don't give a flying fuck about the lives of others. They're simply a rolling weapon of steel waiting for a target. If you've got enough money to drink, then you've got money for a cab. If you don't, do the rest of society a favor and stay the fuck off the road! I'm sick of drunk drivers getting away with murder.

10. I didn't write them
As I said in the post I think she should get more time than she will as well. That's just the way the law works.

Blame it on the drug war, we sometimes release violent or often release non-violent offenders who have acted against others in order to make more room for the drug user, the mandatory minimums were were stupid enough to keep passing. If our courts and prisons weren't so full of that stuff we'd have more room for the real criminals.

The whole system needs a look, this is one of the smaller offensive parts of it. I'm more pissed by the fact that people like her get released to make room for some kid who simply made a poor choice on the wrong corner. Anyone who ever voted "tough on crime", this is what you voted for.

11. It wasn't a rant at you, Asgaya
I'm just generally fed up with drunk drivers. Yes, this country is obsessed with busting kids for possessing an ounce of weed, yet thousands of our citizens are killed each year by a legal, socially approved drug, alcohol. Thousands killed by drunk drivers, thousands more the victims of violent domestic abuse (often involving alcohol), assault, you name it. What hypocrisy.

12. Sorry if it seemed I took it that way
I'm not very good with people, didn't mean for it to seem I'd taken offense. I didn't, only have once or twice really as long as I've read and posted here. Long personal story, wasn't a lot in my background to make me a people person and it shows now and then. That's why I do what I do now, try to avoid us doing it to others.

I just take every chance I get to point out how things are connected to the drug war, I figure even if the person I'm talking with gets it covering it for others that might read is useful. As long as this tough on crime garbage plays so well we'll never get past this type of nonsense. :banghead:

2. She should be forced to clean up the remains
Someone like that should have their license taken away for life.

3. ...license taken away for life?
Are you kidding? Forgive the hyperbole, but she should be shot before she breeds if she hasn't already!

14. I wouldn't go that far
But she should spend a nice, long vacation at the grey bar hotel, say 15 years or so. Then, forbidden to drive, ever again.

People who kill using vehicles should be smacked down hard.
