New York Times 'disconnects' public e-mail addresses for its columnists

Months after moving its Op-Ed columnists behind a "paywall," the New York Times has now 'disconnected' their public e-mail addresses, RAW STORY has learned.

Times News service clients have been advised to remove any old e-mail addresses which they may have published alongside Op-Ed columns.

According to a memo obtained by RAW STORY, "With the advent of the paper's online program TimesSelect, subscribers are invited to contact columnists from within The Times' Web site, nytimes.com."

I suddenly lost my "registration" to their site.

6. It's beyond odd

This is outrageous. First, they restrict access to their more popular (and anti-Bush) columnists like Maureen Dowd, Frank Rich, and others to paid subscribers--knowing full well that very few people will pay for this. And this is also a good way to restrict readers with a lower income.

And now they totally cut off the ability to communicate with these columnists unless you pay for that privilege. The next step will probably be to restrict all access to the Times to subscribers only.

It's so obvious that they are doing this for the benefit of the Bush facist regime. Can't have people getting all riled up, can we? We need to focus on the important things, like missing white women, runaway brides, husbands disappearing at sea, etc., etc. AND, of course: purchase, consume, watch mindless television shows, and SHUT UP and accept all of this crap quietly and without protest.

I HATE the New York Times for everything they've done to aid in the destruction of freedom and truth in this once noble nation.

I wish Al Gore could find some wealthy and influential backers for his TV station (like Ted Turner, maybe?) to make it more visible. We Americans need a news station that tells us the truth and isn't owned by companies that profit from the war and are therefore beholden to the Bush administration.

I am beyond disgust with our so-called "mainstream media."
