Stephen & Tabitha King have anti bush Bumper stickers!
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 09:04 AM by Tom Yossarian Joad
Oh yeah!

" Yet they enjoy the rewards of his success. The Kings' 19th-century mansion is spectacularly restored; the grounds are lush. Then there's the indoor pool and two Mercedes-Benzes in the driveway.

But there's also the more pedestrian Nissan Pathfinder and Toyota Prius, each of which Tabitha drives. Both are adorned with anti-Bush bumper stickers: "Give Impeachment a Chance" and "Fire the Liar."

1. If you've read S. King's books, they clearly have an anti Repub slant.

Even though they are not generally political.

2. I have enjoyed many of his earlier works.
And yes, he does seem to lean our way.

*sigh* Another thing that the RW will miss out on.

3. I actually live in their neighborhood.
During the 2004 election season, they had a MASSIVE Kerry sign in their yard. When King spoke at the UMaine commencement, his speech was very political, very liberal and very anti-shrub. I'm pretty sure that that where we live there are about three democratic households. The King's is one of them.

12. For you, anything!
I was in the local Borders early one morning. There were almost no customers but Mr. King was upstairs looking at some music. I did the unthinkable and strode boldly over to him. Asked to shake his hand so I could tell everybody I did it. He complied with a smile. And so I'm telling you!

4. I'm sure it's frustrating when the president is more horrifying...
... than any book you can write.

If you haven't watched the original "Dead Zone" in a while you should. President Stilson is a dead ringer for GWB.

5. that's not too surprising...
I remember before the 2000 election, Stephen posted an article on his website about the dangers a Bush Presidency would bring.

6. It proves the point that
educated people pay attention and know what is happening. That's why it is more common for teachers to be liberal. Both the Kings were teachers at one time I believe.

Just curious.

11. We went to a fundraiser for Gary Hart at Stephen's house in 86.
Kind of a funny story. I was breaking down a set-up on my table saw the morning of the fundraiser. My hand slipped and my middle finger got a nasty gash that required stiches on my middle finger. I had to keep my hand raised to relieve the pain and the throbbing in the finger. It kind of looked like I was flipping off everyone at the fundraiser. Stephen noticed and asked about the circumstances...a real icebreaker.

13. Isn't it interesting how truely "self-made" men (or women),,,,,,
tend to be Liberal?

King is a true American sucess story. He didn't get where he is through family or class connections, only his own talent and hard work.

14. True, he grew up dirt poor
I saw on a documentary that he didn't even have running water for much of his childhood. I think that probably has a lot to do with why he is a liberal, he knows the cons are the party of the rich.

There was another story on that documentary about him that I was thought was pretty amazing. After he had published Carrie and finally started to make a little money for himself, he bought a new car. But when he went back to his hometown to visit he didn't want to show off, so he drove back in the same old beater that he'd left in.

King seems to me like someone that doesn't let success go to his head.
