Randi spent $0...Sean Hammity spent $1.8 million. |

If I just heard her correctly.
Guess who won in the market (NY)?

(Hint, hint, starts with an R)

1. But Hannity won the important age 19-23 chronic pyromaniac demographic |
|
and cleaned the floor in all age brackets in the beating-homeless-people-with-baseball-bats demographic.
And Randy will never beat Hannity in the closeted-homosexual-bedwetting-animal-torturing demographic, where Republicans lead by a factor of ten-to-one.

3. No matter where you're at, it usually takes years to build an audience.... |
|
and considering she doesn't have an advertising budget, I'd say it's amazing.

5. Um, guess you've never heard Boston radio |
|
Dominated by right-wing garbage like Howie Carr.
It has nothing to do with the city, and everything to do with who owns the stations.

6. OK. What's your excuse for her being #1 in San Diego? I was told |
|
San Diego is a very RED area in a BLUE state. She's NUMBER ONE IN THE DRIVE TIME IN SAN DIEGO. How do you explain that one? Just askin'.
JFYI...AAR has been around for ONLY 2 years. Insanity has been around for many, many more years and had a huge audience because he had no competition. He has competition now and it's Randi and she beat his ASS. Give credit where credit is due please.
Not only that, AIR AMERICA RADIO DOESN'T EVEN ADVERTISE!!! Not ONE PENNY goes to advertising. I say Randi did DAMN good in light of all the obstacles she had to overcome. She was up against HUGE RW dollars. MILLIONS in advertising and she still beat him. You explain that away as "it's a 90% Blue city?"

9. If they don't advertise, then we should do some freeway blogging for them |
|
FYI: there used to be a SMALL Al Franken billboard on a minor road in my area for a few months, so they must be (or must have been) advertising at least a little somewhere.
If someone gave me 100 Air America bumper stickers, I'd guarantee they'd be all over a 25-mile radius very quickly.
Hint hint

12. I have to listen out of WCKY (Cinc, OH) if offline |
|
Since there isn't a decent station broadcasting AAR in Tennessee. Hopefully, this will change.
Freeway blogs sound like a great idea. Hope someone PM'S you 'bout them stickers! :P

8. When she spent zero dollars to advertise? |
|
Please! If she's kickin' the boy's ass with no promotion, imagine what a few well-placed commercials and billboards would do?
HA!

10. Randi whipped Sean in his home broadcasting city, NYC. |
|
Don't forget that his show is syndicated and WABC is the flagship station.

11. Nice to have some good news for a change, eh? |
|
Too many PD's are using the tired excuse: "Liberal radio won't sell. People just don't want to hear it."
Bullshit.

13. Down Goes Hannity...Down Goes Hannity...ROFL |
|
A couple more things that make this sweeter...Hannity is on WABC...a 50,000 signal that covers the entire New York metro (everything east of Philadelphia...LOL) while WLIB, the AAR station is only 10,000 watts and directs its signal out to Nova Scotia at night...people in New Jersey and the Yonkers/Hudson Valley area get a real poor signal at night. A majority of this book happened while the sun was setting earlier, thus even more "power" to Hannity.
The real fun could be the fate of some of Rushbo and Hannity's key stations. Rumors keep persisting that WABC, WLS and other Disney Radio stations are going to be sold within the year and the new landlord may not want the baggage of the old one.
Cheers...

16. It started in the late 90s. WABC had the "graveyard shift" of 1-5 a.m. |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 09:05 AM by no_hypocrisy
and management had Lynn Samuels doing her show at that time. One night, Lynn announced that she was going to have on her program the next night someone who was going to prove the O.J. was innocent. OK, so her loyal (insomniac) listeners tuned in, expecting to hear Lynn and her guest. Instead, we were "greeted" with a new host and a new program, Sean Hannity. He was not subbing for Lynn. He was there to stay.
Lynn was beyond progressive, beyond progressive. And her replacement was Rush Lite. He got calls and Lynn never returned to WABC.
And Sean hung in there and got the drive-time slot and then syndicated his show.
And here we are.

17. On WJR in Detroit, Mitch Albom was replaced with Hannity |
|
on the afternoon drive time slot. What happened?
Albom brought some balance to the area on talk radio. He didn't always have the liberal slant, but after a full day of Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Savage, et al, he was a refreshing change of pace.
Did they move Albom to another time slot, or did they cancel him altogether? It wouldn't surprise me if they canceled him because WJR is owned by Disney.
