New Murtha smear: Medals undeserved (Swift Boat time). Inevitable.
I am pissed that they are trying this again, no doubt at Rove, Cheney, Bush's urging. But, here we go. Best be ready for this. Is this a fraudulent news operation? Of course. Is it absurd? Of course. Will Rove use it? Of course.

Murtha's War Hero Status Called Into Question
By Marc Morano and Randy Hall
CNSNews.com Staff
January 13, 2006

(CNSNews.com) - Having ascended to the national stage as one of the most vocal critics of President Bush's handling of the war in Iraq, Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman John Murtha has long downplayed the controversy and the bitterness surrounding the two Purple Hearts he was awarded for military service in Vietnam.

Murtha is a retired marine and was the first Vietnam combat veteran elected to Congress. Since 1967, there have been at least three different accounts of the injuries that purportedly earned Murtha his Purple Hearts. Those accounts also appear to conflict with the limited military records that are available, and Murtha has thus far refused to release his own military records.

A Cybercast News Service investigation also reveals that one of Murtha's former Democratic congressional colleagues and a fellow decorated Vietnam veteran, Don Bailey of Pennsylvania, alleges that Murtha admitted during an emotional conversation on the floor of the U.S. House in the early 1980s that he did not deserve his Purple Hearts.

" is putting himself forward as some combat veteran with serious wounds and he's using that and it's dishonest and it's wrong," Bailey told Cybercast News Service on Jan. 9. Murtha served in the Marines on active duty and in the reserves from 1952 until his retirement as a colonel in 1990. He volunteered for service in Vietnam and was a First Marine Regiment intelligence officer in 1966 and 1967.

1. The Republicans will SLANDER ANYONE...
...that stands against them. You served your nation? They don't give a shit, to them it's just another aspect of your life they can slander you with. They are COMPLETELY shameless and if there is a just god, he'll send them all to the deepest smouldering stinking pit of hell.

15. This is exactly the problem.
Because the Dems never definitely state their case, the Repubs keep reusing the stuff.

8. I wanna see george's medals. And Dickhead's. And Rummy's. And
Condi's.

They chewed up and spit out the only real medal winner they had (except McCain who I hate and say that he basically got his for getting caught). I was talking about Powell. Who, as Harry Belefonte said very aptly that he was nothing more than their houseboy.

9. OK...time for GENERAL Wes Clark, John Kerry, Scott Ritter, Max Cleland,
Holbrook, and any other LIBERAL military people I can't think of, to hop to his defense! NOW! STOP THIS SHIT IN IT'S TRACKS! Don't ignore it like Kerry did! We saw what happened when they let that go unanswered. Kerry was damaged by it. DO NOT LET THEM DO THIS TO MURTHA! Please.:(

13. Personally, I think that whole purple heart recall was all about
discrediting Kerry's military record. I think they were moving to recall his medals. It just never went that far.

17. You were right. Sadly.
Just read today's Washington Post online. Sure enough, they report this garbage. We can expect to hear it nonstop now. I am so tired of the bad guys winning by character assassination each and every time someone dares not to worship at the altar of St. George.

18. So then Republicans really DON'T support the military.....
...because afterall, it was the MILITARY that wanted to acknowledge Murtha's (and Kerry's) military heroism in the first place! Military heroes are awarded military medals.

To smear recipients of military awards is to smear the judgment of the US military itself.
