Al Gore to address "Constitutional Crisis." Looks like he's out for blood
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 09:49 AM by Cyrano
It's hard for the MSM to ignore Gore and this article indicates he's going to come out swinging hard.

http://www.thenation.com/blogs/thebeat?bid=1&pid=49140

"It sounds as if Al Gore is about to deliver what could be not just one of the more significant speeches of his political career but an essential challenge to the embattled presidency of George W. Bush."

He is "... expected to argue that the Bush administration has created a 'Constitutional crisis' by acting without the authorization of the Congress and the courts to spy on Americans and otherwise abuse basic liberties."

snip

He will also "... make the case that the country -- including the legislative and judicial branches and all Americans -- must act now to defend the systems put in place by the country's founders to curb executive power or risk permanent and irreversible damage to the Constitution."

Gore will be introduced by Bob Barr who was a congressional wingnut from Georgia when he was in the congress, but seems to have seen the light. Since leaving the congress, he's been a devout defender of the Bill of Rights.

Gore will be giving this speech tomorrow and IMO, it will be virtually impossible for the MSM to totally ignore him.

On edit: Just noticed that this topic was discussed here at length yesterday. Good. I don't know what time it will be, but CSPAN will probably cover it.

I dont think I've heard about it in the mainstream media. I've read about in online and I will be watching. Is it on C-Span? Do you know when it will be on television?

5. Democrats...Let's Get Him
Our time is about to come...the Repugnicans have built ScAlito to be an easy shoe-in...let's ram that shoe up their fat asses!

I'm glad Vice President Gore is coming forward...his voice is one that will rise above the bullshit. I suspect we could hear a Big Dog put a couple bites in as well. This nomination process could be a defining moment for Democats as many factions unite to defeat this nomination.

Ya gotta love Bob Barr doing the introduction. I wonder what really happened to him...did 16 tons fall on his head and he became a human being? I love when he comes on CNN and bitchslaps Mrs. Rush Limbo around.

6. Difficult for MSM to ignore Gore?
Hardly. That's what they've been doing ever since January 2001. I will be very surprised if, on Tuesday, the average American even knows that this speech occurred. Or if they know about it, it will be in the form of a few small segments taken out of context and spun as a traitorous giving of aid and comfort to the terrorists.

7. Good for Gore, I hope he can up-regulate some courage in Congress
If there is a fire burning in Washington it is the one Bush/Cheney has set to the constitution and the rule of law.

9. The reaction of the current Dem leaders will be most interesting
Will they slink back to their holes and decry Gore for being a troublemaker or will they stand up like adults and say 'thanks, Al, we're on the job to stop this thug'. I am betting on the first one. Fox will be screaming about 'crazy Al' and the John Kerrys of the world will slink away. Boxer and Fiengold and Wes Clark will be standing. So will Harry reid. What will Hillary do?

10. I Hope He Ties the 2000 Election--
--and the Supreme Court into this...I believe firmly that there was an honest-to-goodness conspiracy in 2000 between the Repubs and the Court--at least Rehnquist and Scalia--to steal the Presidency, and set the stage for a court that would give Bush, any Republican, monarchical powers...let's hope he brings this up...

12. Dec 9 2000
The day that the traitors on the SC stopped the counting of votes, with Scalia saying "the counting of votes that are of questionable legality does in my view threaten irreparable harm to petitioner," Governor Bush, "by casting a cloud upon what he claims to be the legitimacy of his election" is the day this constitutional crisis started.

The loathsome DLCers, without a thought to the devastating consequences to our system of constitutional government, then ganged up Gore, siding with the Repubs and the media as they always do, and let him know very clearly they would not support him and all but forced him to formally concede.

For the record, I think it was a huge mistake for Gore to have made a concession speech. Not making a speech would not have had much influence on how the events unfolded, but it would have provided a psychological rallying point for us in these dark times 4+ years later, as we listen to his speeches now.

Gore's capitulation, forced by the DLCers, was a tragic abdication of the obligation to stand up for constitutional governance. ALL Dems should have taken a stand at THAT time for the Constitution, which has no provision whatsoever for the Supreme Court to nullify the votes of the people and select the President themselves.

As we have witnessed - a sustained assault on the Constitution rolled into high gear, from that point in time, and ONLY continues to escalate and intensify. But the Dems gave up immediately, completely wimping out under the initial assault, as well as all the others since, up to and including letting two (looks like about to be 2) proponents of the unconstitutional abomination the "unitary executive" theory onto the Supreme Court.

"It's the Constitution, stupid" should have been the rallying cry since December 2000. I know, I know woulda' shoulda' coulda' . . .

21. On that dreadful Saturday
I was alone in my house watching some cable news channel. When I heard the news that the votes would not be counted, I screamed at the top of my lungs -- to the extent that I got a very sore throat! Then, when Gore conceded, I physically collapsed and missed two days of work.

At the time I couldn't imagine the magnitude of what had really happened. It was, of course, the first phase of a well planned coup d'etat. Still, in my gut I knew that this SC decision, that will live in infamy, would radically alter everything.

"with Scalia saying "the counting of votes that are of questionable legality does in my view threaten irreparable harm to petitioner," Governor Bush, "by casting a cloud upon what he claims to be the legitimacy of his election" is the day this constitutional crisis started."

That logic was so transparently cockeyed, it staggers the imagination that ANYONE, let alone a justice on the highest court in the land, could make such a statement and expect to be viewed as anything other that a ninkompoop. And yet, this same logic was used over and over again during the '04 election when all kinds of reports that would have further revealed the incompetency and malevolence of the Bush administration were surpressed because to reveal that kind of negative information (on the President's job performance)would have given an unfair advantage to his opponent. HUH????!!!!

given in the last couple of years have been right on the money and eloquent. It is truly a shame that most people can only experience them if they are tuned into c-span.
