My e-mail to DeWine and Voinovich |
|
I figured it is pretty hopeless but I might never forgive myself if I didn't try. Here's what I told them:
"I can't help but wonder why anyone in the senate would vote for Alito considering the history he has shown with his contempt for Congress in general.
I am very concerned about this particular nominee being confirmed. I don't usually have such strong opinions on these types of appointments but I have a really bad feeling on this one.
I value democracy for myself and my children and I am very concerned about the direction this country has taken since 2000. I feel helpless in fighting for my children's future as I can't even be sure my votes are actually counted as they were intended because there is no transparency in the process.
It is my sincere desire not to have my children inherit a theocracy which seems to be the direction the United States is heading. So I am asking even begging you today not to vote to confirm Alito for the Supreme Court."

Makes me want to cut and paste your words into an email to my own reps.

2. They Have To Know A "Yes" Vote Is Their Politican End |
|
DeWine looked like he had a pantload during the hearings and sure kept a low profile. He sure wasn't using those hearing to raise his profile of being a "Conservative" champion for the folks in Ohio. He was barely in the hearing room.
Pressure has to be put on moderate Repugnicans...or those in blue or purple states (and I consider Ohio purple) that confirming ScAlito now means your loss at the polls in November '06 or '08. DeWine is already behind the 8-ball in polling against Sherrod Brown and Paul Hackett and a yes vote gives either candidate a major battle axe to take to the soccer moms this fall.
Your note was very sincere and hopefully it gets a response...and here's hoping others flood these guys with reminders of what this vote not only means to millions of us, the powers of the House and Senate, but, most importantly (remember, these are Repugnicans) their own carrers and power bases.

3. DeWine kept a low profile until 'The Daily Show' had at him |
|
That was hysterical! Did you see it? DeWine won the contest for 'Who can talk the longest without actually asking the nominee a question." He beat out Biden, Kennedy, and Leahy! I thought for certain Biden was a shoe-in, but no! Over NINE MINUTES DeWine droned on until he FINALLY asked Scalito a question. What a way to be remembered!
And a big thumbs-up to the OP's letter, too. That was very honest and right to the point. :applause:
