Fighting Dems strategy goes kerplunk
So much for the Democrats’ Fighting Dem strategy, which is based on the myth that the right wing won’t attack veterans. It seems they’ve forgotten the attacks on Max Cleland, John Kerry, and Paul Hackett.

From CNS News:

Murtha's War Hero Status Called Into Question
By Marc Morano and Randy Hall
CNSNews.com Staff
January 13, 2006

(CNSNews.com) - Having ascended to the national stage as one of the most vocal critics of President Bush's handling of the war in Iraq, Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman John Murtha has long downplayed the controversy and the bitterness surrounding the two Purple Hearts he was awarded for military service in Vietnam…

A Cybercast News Service investigation also reveals that one of Murtha's former Democratic congressional colleagues and a fellow decorated Vietnam veteran, Don Bailey of Pennsylvania, alleges that Murtha admitted during an emotional conversation on the floor of the U.S. House in the early 1980s that he did not deserve his Purple Hearts.

Unlike Kerry, Murtha is fighting back.

Questions about my record are clearly an attempt to distract attention from the real issue, which is that our brave men and women in uniform are dying and being injured every day in the middle of a civil war that can be resolved only by the Iraqis themselves.

Thanks to Hoffmania for the tip.

1. I saw the other day that the Pentagon was asking
some generals to attack Murtha.

So far, they have refused to comply.

What good are generals if they won't smear veterans?

2. Those people are so predictable
The GOP must have some super secret storage site where they keep all of their piles of mud ready for slinging at anyone who challenges them.

6. And why we ask?
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 10:16 AM by LiberalPartisan
Because the majority of Americans are willingly and blissfully ignorant. As long as they can continue to consume, be it fast food, gasoline or at the mall, Americans will remain apathetic. The majority of Americans, or at least theose who voted for Bush, do not deserve the rights (formerly) guaranteed them under the Constitution. We live in a culture where people actually believe they have a connection to TV characters, where the dominant religion has morphed into a confederation of money sucking cult organizations and where sticking a yellow ribbon on one's SUV allows them to call themselves a patriot and where stupidity is revered and education sneered at. I ask you - is there a single redeeming quality to the 'American culture'?

You know that super-secret warehouse where we're keeping all
of that dry powder that we refuse to use against any Republican
attacks or initiatives? Well, the Republicans have dug a secret
tunnel into it and are stealing our dry powder to power their
super-secret mud manufacturing machinery!

4. Two paragraphs???
Please explain how two paragraphs qualifies for fighting back and the unleashing of hundreds of press releases and op-eds, vet's commercials, press conferences of retired generals, Cleland at Crawford, and a whole bunch more; is not fighting.

WE need to back up Murtha, no questions asked. Nothing more needs to be said than, "this is what they do" and we aren't stepping into that pig sty ever again.

12. You are right.
Democrats must back Murtha up with no hesitation, hemming, hawing or attempting to "see both sides of the issue".

These are filthy tactics plain and simple. The Republicans have a history of using them. Fair minded people are revolted at this. If the Democrats attempt to intellectualize this they will lose.

8. The RW clearly hates veterans.
Not only do they not hesitate to attack veterans, but many of their most powerful and vocal members aren't veterans themselves.

9. 'fighting dem' strategy?
"So much for the Democrats’ Fighting Dem strategy, which is based on the myth that the right wing won’t attack veterans."

I must have missed the briefing for this strategy. Somebody thought the repukes won't attack something or someone? Other than Joe Lieberman or Bob Shrum, who would have thought such thoghts?

10. Yeah, I guess you did miss it
Here's their website.
http://www.fighting-dems.com/

And here's what they're putting out to the media:
Political analysts expect Democrats to shine the spotlight on Duckworth and other Iraq war veterans running for office to send a message nationally that the party can be strong on defense and national security, even as many criticize Bush's handling of the Iraq war.

"It's awfully tough to attack someone who's served and sacrificed as much as she has," said Larry Sabato, a political science professor at the University of Virginia…

11. Time To Blow The Lid Off The Entire RW Paid Pundit Machine
Read the posts at firedoglake, daily kos and think progress...they're all sniffing out the money and connections and conflicts involved here how the same scumbags are trying to sink Murtha like they did Kerry. Unlike last time, there are a lot more eyes watching and a louder blogosphere to call out what's happening here. The progressive/liberal blogs are starting to grow up.

The caveat here is this is a double-edged sword. While Kerry let the lies become "fact" by not immediately taking these scumbuckets on...taking them on too much also gives them much needed/wanted publicity. I don't want to see a John O'Neill or some other angry, drunken, biggoted Vietnam Vet with a bug up his ass on the nightly food fights. I have enough with the biased hosts.

The real issue is how the Washington Post is going to do with this story. They're the one that gave "CNS" legs by publishing their crap and letting Bozell and Norquist slip below the radar instead of shining a light on their involvement in this astroturfing. The pressure is now on...as the WashPo will now have to either investigate further or face even greater loss of its once shining credibility.
