Saddam judge 'resigns from trial' ?
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 11:44 AM by cal04
The chief judge in the trial of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein has tendered his resignation, reports say. Judge Rizgar Mohammed Amin is angry at complaints from the Iraqi government that he has been too lenient on Saddam Hussein, Reuters news agency reports.

However, Judge Rizgar's resignation is reported to have not yet been accepted.
Tribunal officials are said to be trying to persuade him to remain as the judge overseeing Saddam's trial, for an alleged massacre in Dujail in 1982.

High Tribunal officials were trying to talk Kurdish judge Rizgar Amin out of his decision, the source said, adding that Amin was reluctant to stay on because Shi'ite leaders had criticised him for being too lenient on Saddam in court. "He tendered his resignation to the court a few days ago but the court rejected it. Now talks are under way to convince him to go back on his decision," he said. "He's under a lot of pressure; the whole court is under political pressure."

2. that`s why the usa placed him on trial in iraq
if it would have been the world court none of this would happen. saddam would get a fair trial,be able to call witness, and more important-name those in the rest of the world he dealt with during the 80-90`s.
