Right now it seems their main objective is to do just enough to keep us from revolting. They fight when it doesn't count, pretend to fight when it really counts, then lay down & blame the "lack of grassroots support" and the media for their loss.
You will always be disappointed until you realize that the power-brokers in the 2 parties, as they currently stand, are playing good cop/bad cop on the American people. I know people don't want to accept this, but examining that theory head-on (as opposed to dodging the inevitable conclusion), is actually more empowering (to the individual) than it sounds. We can cut our dependence upon others to solve our problems & work ways of taking matters into our own hands.
Then the course of action you look to goes from the "This is what they should do," type of thinking into "This is what I CAN do." I'm not talking about writing your Senators or signing a petition. I'm talking about going into your community with no purpose other than to improve it. If everybody does it, everything else will fall into place.

1. Making grass roots more |
|
independent and allied to each other was apparent long ago. The good cop bad cop analogy does not have to be a true conspiracy. As with Dem advisers who are killing the party only actions and results need to be considered. "Might as well be" applies to what can't be proved. With friends like this(if friends) who needs enemies?
The leadership has dug them as deep a trust deficit as Diebold even if they are as crooked in fact. They don't acknowledge even that and it doesn't matter either IF they have secret strategies or just bluffing it out like Diebold and other gangland criminals.
But actions by honest leaders can start reversing this- anytime. And unfrotunately they have to be ongoing and consistent. Murtha is not enough.

2. Democrats in California |
|
The democrats in California have been tucking their tail between their legs ever since Schwarzenegger took control, er, seized control. Even after defeating Gov. Girly Man's ludicrous special election, the democrats have not really seized the opportunity--where are the democrats arguing for higher taxes on the California aristocrats of Westside LA, Palo Alto, SF, etc.? Or pushing for property reforms, employment rights, education, controlling the absurdities of real estate speculation, "gentrification"? The CA democrats are now pretty much a party of image and flash--both GOPS and Dems vying for has the most elegant suit or dress. Fabian Nunez doesn't discuss say LA transportation problems, or the IT market's collapse, he makes some feeble remarks about Arnold's new loan swindle. Maybe the CA assembly should call Gray Davis.
