Recent blog exchange with a friend (thinking Gore has a chance="Deluded")
Your thoughts on the following exchange greatly appreciated.

OP

Gore on This Week

Even though the stage today seems like political manna from heaven for someone like Gore, between rising gas prices and oil company profits, eroding public support for the war in Iraq and an administration approval rating thats dropping faster than a pair of panties at a high school prom, his presence on the Democratic ticket in 08 would all but guarantee a Republican win, and a loss for the public at large.

My response

Totally disagree. All my Democratic activist friends think he's the man. I do, too. My mantra: he will run, and he will win.

Friend's retort

I hate to say it, but your democratic activist friends suck at winning elections. The reason Clinton won was because he appealed to both the left and the center--Gore appeals only to the left, and those that think he appeals to the quintessential average joe are deluded.

My counter-retort

Three points:

1 - Gore didn't lose the election.

2 - Gore was stupid to allow the DNC handlers to over-handle him in 2000. He's not stiff and boring, so why did he come across that way (aside from the media bias - who looked more stiff during the debates? Bush, IMHO, repeating his memorized Rovian talking points, but I digress).

3 - A few weeks ago, my father, who has voted Republican in every presidential election since 1968, saw Al Gore on SNL. Sunday morning, he called me and said, "You know, I kinda hope Al Gore does run. I might even vote for him. I think he deserves a chance, you know, see what he can do. He'd be a helluva lot better than Hillary." (That's the only sentiment currently connecting the right and left in this country, IMHO - nobody likes Hillary.) He then started going on about the familiar Nixonian "wilderness time" BS. That's the talking point for 2007. Gore / Nixon / wilderness / earned comeback. Let's just hope the similarities end there, though.

I'm no hardcore DNCer, though. I am too radical for Howard Dean. I'm just sayin'...

Then I went back an added another comment:

This is all a worthless discussion, anyway. The next election will be decided for us. By Diebold.

3. "Get used to it"...?
It didn't exactly happen yesterday...and in any event, he did win the election, and maybe you and your friends better "get used" to that--it will make good practice for Gore's victory in 2008...enjoy your stay...

7. Actually... the United States lost.
If Gore had rightfully taken office, we'd have a helluva lot more peace and prosperity.

Instead, we have thousands dead, record deficits, a trillion dollar war, soaring gas prices, and both the World Trade Center and the city of New Orleans were destroyed.

11. heh, keep telling yourself that
funny how short the memory is of pukes. they always conveniently forget that Gore won the popular vote. and if they think any Gore or even Nader voters are going to go over to the party of cowards, liars and traitors, the party of the unelected photo-op wannabe dictator, well they just show they belong right where they are: Bush's base, the Total Fucking Morons.
So take another swig of that kool-aid and kiss the pr*ck that's screwin' ya.

turkey. how come you're not in Iraq? I heard they've even lowered the IQ test level to 45, so if you study real hard you might be able to pass it and make something of yourself. go on, be a big hard-on hero and show your glorious leader how much you love him and believe in his cause.
