Is your city designated a "Preserve America" community?
http://www.preserveamerica.gov/PAcommunities.html

Why was yours designated as such?

And, from how you see your city expanding, do you think the title is deserved?

1. HAHAHAHAHA, I live near Dunedin Florida, one on the list
and if by "preserve" they mean "build condos on every available piece of waterfront property" then yes the title is deserved. I'm not kidding you some of these condos are built on the teeniest tiniest piece of land. 1 hurricane an they are going to slide into the Gulf.

If by "preserve" they mean "for the rich only" then yes, Dunedin is a shining example, one others should envy and aspire to become.

2. Fascinating. I'm hoping other DUers respond, for a concensus...
If this pattern is repeated...

5. What exactly is a "Preserve America" community?
And does anyone know what the resolution was in a community to establish and post signs about that designation?

3. Good God man, every town on that list I've been to is right-wing heaven
Very few exceptions.

This is a right-wing rewards group.

14. I dont think so, Bridgeport Connecticut is a hell hole full of slums,
ghetos, and one of the highest crime rates in the nation. Not exactly right wing territory if you know what I mean.

16. I can only speak to my own experience
I'm a Westerner and have limited travel experience in the Eastern US. I'll take your word for it about Bridgeport. :hi:

6. I don't see NYC on the list.
What is it the others are preserving? We have some buildings designated as landmarks.

And WE have some historical places up here. Glad to see that we aren't on that list.

11. Norwalk and Bridgeport, CT ? WTF?
Why in the hell would they want to be preserved?
Bridgeport is the 2nd worst city in the US, so bad that not even cops travel alone in the city.
Norwalk has been industrialized and modernized, and there is nothing quaint or historic left.

12. Worcester, Massachusetts
Has been declared a Preserve America site as well. Much of the attraction here is that many places in Massachusetts are relevant from the Revolutionary War years. There are also historical buildings here from the 19th century which are of significance.

Here is the link to the page at Preserve America:

13. I'm proud to say
that MY city -- Portland, OR -- is referred to by the current Bush administration, as well as the previous Bush administration, as "Little Beirut"! This is because everytime a Bush President comes to town, protesters come out en masse.

15. Actually my town is on there...
What a laugh! It's big-boxing out the wazoo. A lovely old building was recently torn down to make way for a fancyass hotel. Means nothing, as far as I can tell...

17. I'm in MA
The towns and city (Worchester)listed are pretty much clustered in an area that's more central MA-many are from the Blackstone Valley area-they're trying to promote that area as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, IIRC...or something to that effect.
However, the rural/farming flavor is rapidly being ruined by sprawl development and the building of those huge Barbie Dream Houses (McMansions) that are big plastic blights no matter where they appear....
I certainly wouldn't call all this recent development "preserving America". It's a shame because I know the Blackstone valley area and have long admired it-it used to be really beautiful, now it's just turning into another suburb....congested mass of SUV's and plastic.
Makes me feel sad.

18. Apparently my entire state is not worthy of preservation...
although somehow "Preserve America" sounds like a rovian term if I ever heard one so I'm happy WI hasn't signed on...yet.
