Once Again, The Dems Lie Down Early
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 07:04 PM by kohodog
"Democrats say President Bush is putting an enduring conservative imprint on the courts, and they see little hope of turning the tide."

This from the NYT front page, yet Alito has not been confirmed yet. They have already succombed, while if they really took a stand this creep could be filibustered and sent back to the third circut. Oh, I forgot, that might make his wife cry and the dems would look mean.

Please call your senators even if they will vote against Alito. It's not over yet unless the people remin silent.

Sorry, forgot link: http://nytimes.com/2006/01/15/politics/politicsspecial1/15alito.html?hp&ex=1137301200&en=0420e5e294663e36&ei=5094&partner=homepage

also please note that it was written by Adam Nagourney

1. I agree - CALL YOUR SENATORS NOW. But note: It's a Corporate Media rag...
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 07:08 PM by ClassWarrior
...TELLING YOU that they've "already succombed" (sic). You have absolutely NO idea whether they've succumbed or not. Please don't be so easily manipulated.

8. Agreed, but the corporate rags have influence
And I only hear murmurs about taking a stand. Which is why I noted who wrote it and that if they (the dem senators) don't hear from constituents he'll pass. People often don't bother to call Senators who have already decided, but they all talk to each other and if a groundswell from their constituents is felt it may help the weak or undecided.

12. People should ALWAYS let their Senators know where they stand...
...no matter whether a Senator's made up his mind or not. Dammit, they wanted the job - they have to frickin' listen to what you have to say!!

14. I am tired of that excuse also
in 2000 we had our chance, and because the leaders of our
party were incompentent we lost. All the Gore campaign had to
do was request a vote of the entire state of Florida, and it
would have NEVER gone to the supreme court. Read the decision

Not only did Gore run a terrible campain, but so did Kerry.
He didn't go after the swift pukes until it was too late, his
strategy lost him campaign funding which he badly needed in
the last months of the election, but most of all, HE SAID THEY
HAD EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL with regard to the voting
mechanism, and we find out later he didn't. There is NO way
that the democratic areas in Ohio should have had LESS voting
machines than in the repuke areas.

THEY HAD FOUR YEARS TO CORRECT THE SITUATION with paperless
ballots, and they didn't. Worse yet, very little has still
been done

Nothing is going to change until people are personally
affected. Until their job is offshored, or their kid is sent
to Iraq, or they are forclosed on the mortgage, can't get
healthcare, and don't have enough money to retire, only then
will we see change

6. Check your facts, mate...The filthy Repukes never did this for Clinton...
...and it was the Repukes who killed Harriet Meiers nomination
thus proving their raving hypocrisy.

I know these facts won't sit well with you, but you're only
trolling here, aren't you?

10. What makes you think bush won the election?
Did you complain about the 60 plus Clinton nominees that were
refused an up or down vote? I bet not.

15. Get a new talking point.
You have posted that one 3 times in this forum alone. Aren't
there any NEW ones that don't involve that over used phrase
"up or down vote" to repeat yet? That one is so
"Harriet Miers".

21. so did every senator
Every Senator won their election also. Their job is not to be
a rubber stamp for the President. Their job is to represent
the state that elected them. In fact this whole system is set
up in such a way that they should counter-balance the power of
the execute branch. If you don't responsiable use the power
you have then you may as well not have it.

5. if they do not stand up against this nomination
and do everything in their power to stop it, including filibuster, than what do the democrats represent? I would bet that if by some miracle we took back the house and senate, their would be no impeachment against these criminals, because there are no leaders in our party anymore

18. the Dems have been blowing it since Scalia.....
The Dems have known since the Reagan years just what the Right was up to in trying to hijack the courts and in 20 years they STILL haven't developed a better gameplan to counter this threat.

19. What would be gained?
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 07:55 PM by bowens43
A filibuster will NOT stop the appointment. The republicans are not going to allow that to happen and there is NOTHING we can do to stop them. They will change the rules. With the scandals and the low poll numbers the repubs are in trouble. They can't afford to lose this nomination.
