Dems ready proposal on code of conduct..to unveil Wednesday.
http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradenton/news/breaking_news/13628575.htm

Democrats intend to unveil a sweeping plan this week to tighten Congress' code of conduct, officials said Saturday night, including a ban on lobbyists' gifts to lawmakers and a crackdown on special interest provisions slipped into legislation in the final moments before passage.

The party's top leaders in Congress, Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada and Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California, are scheduled to announce the Democratic proposals on Wednesday.

Republicans have yet to agree on a comprehensive approach, as Pelosi and Reid intend to do. Howard Dean, the Democratic party chairman, is scheduled to travel to Ohio on Wednesday to stress the same issue. The state's Republican governor, Bob Taft, pleaded no contest last summer to charges that he failed to report numerous golf outings since taking office in 1999.

The Democratic proposals would end practices that Abramoff used frequently to court members of Congress.

5. It might happen eventually...
I personally would love to see it happen, or implement the standard of "Single Issue" legislation. Each bill should be for one issue only. No more "lets make a deal", where pork is loaded on to gain support. No more having to vote for something you don't want because you can't vote against the rest of the bill. I've heard Randi Rhodes talking about this, and think it's a great idea.

I could see it happening someday, in response to all the quid pro quo corruption that is commonplace right now. The tide will turn, and the backlash could produce something similar to this.

3. Ohio, good State for Dean to go to remind those poor people
what their leaders have been doing. That may be a State we could win some seats in.

"What's a Democracy Bonds event?

It's a chance for individuals who have invested in the Democracy Bonds program to meet with Governor Dean and discuss how their resources have been allocated during 2005 and the plan for victory in 2006. It's a chance to have a free exchange of ideas about the steps necessary to reclaim our country in 2006, 2008, and beyond.

The rapidly growing Democracy Bonds community is the core of a new Democratic Party -- a permanent operation dedicated to building our capacity to win elections not just this year but for a generation. We are building from the grassroots up, organizing in every state, and asking Americans from Main Street, and not K Street, to sustain the party via the Democracy Bonds program.

We can't afford to have a boom-and-bust operation that pops up every two or four years in a few key states; Democracy Bonds make that possible. A Democracy Bond is your monthly commitment to the Democratic Party -- for as little as $10 a month you can become part of this community of people dedicated to building our party."

There is another event Monday night in KC, and another in Columbus, but don't know where it is.

6. Yeah! Can't wait to see this!
Hope it gets some coverage on the teevee.

I've been waiting to see what message the Dems were going to present in an organized and coordinated fashion. I knew they were working on something...

I love Harry Reid!

7. This sounds good to me. A new, coordinated offensensive from the Dems.
Whatever happens with alito, it will be over, and we need to control what comes next.

I think this latest move is a good idea. I love to see coordination and a universal message coming from our side..
