The one that really pissed me off. When George asked him is Bush's domestic spying was illegal he just would not answer directly at all. The best he could come up with is "I've been busy for the past few weeks being the best Governor I can." When pressed he was willing to say , "Bush did not go far enough in informing Congress.

The answer the the question Mark is "YES! It was illegal and he should be impeached."
Is that so fucking hard to say Gov?

...are on the bottom of my list. That means that if they get the nomination, I'd likely vote for them. But I wouldn't donate, and I wouldn't volunteer. If the DLC forces one of them down my throat, they've told me what my values are worth, and they can go F'K themselves. I really, really hope we have an alternative. ...I can't say that. I never say that. Even those on the bottom of my list, could, in theory, sway me. It's just highly unlikely.

If we were to assign values as to "liable to sway me to enthusiastic support" on a scale of 1-100, Bush/Cheney would be a 1 (yes, it's possible, must as unlikely as it is that I'll be blown up by a 'dirty bomb' in the next 72 hours). Biden or Lieberman would be maybe 40, Hillary and Warner in the 50s. Feingold might be a 70, and Gore would be like 90. The goal is for the candidate to be closer to 100 before the primaries than anyone else, and then sustain at least 80+ until the election. That's how my calculus works anyway.

Driving home from work the other day, my thoughts drifted in and out about the Alito hearings. How would the republican team have handled the opposition? First off, let me say that I do not subscribe to the republican tactics of lying, but that said, they definitely have something to teach us. They chose a position of opposition and lay out an understandable scenario. Speaking with Bill Maher on Friday night, George Mitchell described it as creating the "drama." Now George Mitchell is certainly a faithful Democrat, so when he admitted that the Democrats are not putting forth an effective opposition, I felt slightly better about this dissatisfaction I feel about "the team."

Spying on Americans is a breach of gigantic proportions with the compact between the citizens and their government. Extreme concentration of power in the executive branch destroying the balance of power is a deconstruction of the mechanism of what keeps America from falling into a totalitarianism. So why is our team, that supposedly has the case in their hands failing so badly to be understood?

Maybe it is because if I love my country. If I believe in democratic ideals, the team currently in the field is the wrong team. I'm talking about the Democrats....hell, I've been a Democrat all my life, I'm talking about the show-boats representing our side. This team will never defeat their team.

We are the voting base, but we are not voting for Democrats in many cases; we are voting for a different party that has lots of money but not our best interests at heart. The positions on the tickets that are filled by the DLC are positions lost to Democrats. That team has no desire to fight for us. None.

I really don't know what to do. Mark Warner and Hillary will have the money, but they are not leaders nor do they intend to be.

It is so hard for politicians do directly answer questions nowadays. It's almost like they are too afraid to answer questions, for fear that they might just p*ss off a group of people. It's like they are afraid to let their true views be known.

I went through this very same experience in an online chat with former Sen. Bob Graham of Florida, during the Democratic primaries.

He gave "non-answers" to the questions I posed to him.

For example, I asked him if he became President, what types of African-Americans could he see appointing to positions of leadership in a Graham administration. I wanted him to give me names, i.e. "I have tremendous respect for Tavis Smiley and I would like for him to take a role in a Graham Administration."

Instead, he answered my question by saying he wanted to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the March on Washington. I didn't ask him about the March on Washington; I asked him about African-Americans in a Graham Administration!!

Then I asked him if he became President, and the Congress sent him legislation repealing all or parts of the Patriot Act, would he sign it?

He answered that question by saying the Aschcroft Justice Department was the most corrupt Justice Department in a long time.

Well, of course it was. But I didn't ask him about Aschcroft's corrupt Justice Dept. I asked him if, as President, would he sign any leglisation sent to him that would repeal all or parts of the Patriot Act.
