1. Or you could look confused and say,
"I thought Jesus said there were two commandments-love God and your neighbor as yourself. Do you honestly think the Prince of Peace condones mass killings?" If they say yes, make the sign of the cross, symbolically take off your shoes and shake the sand from them, and go.

3. That's always my exit line
Because that's where I lose it.

Got into a discussion with the guy who installed my new carpet -- his son was serving in Ramadi (I hope he made it back okay). But we were having this reasonable argument about the war, and then, when he appeared to be at a loss for words, a little flustered, he just stopped, and he got this scary look in his eye, and he said "I think we should just nuke 'em all."

Great conversation ender. That was it for me. And he looked totally insane when he said it, too.

I guess the key word is just THEM. THEY are not US, therefore, KILL THEM ALL.

9. I think it's very hard for parents of soldiers...
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 09:57 AM by Juniperx
... to bring themselves to the realization that their kid is in grave danger over nothing. I'm sure it's much easier for some to fall into the good guys vs the bad guys mentality to make it all seem worthwhile. What he doesn't realize is that The Bush Regime doesn't give a rat's ass about his kid and if that nuke button were to be pushed, they wouldn't care if this guys kid got caught in the blast.

16. Yes, the look in his eyes, as scary as it was
Was completely rooted in fear, I'm sure. The poor guy.

I keep thinking about a man who stopped when I was out protesting the war, and intitiated a discussion by saying he had TWO sons over there. I told him that I fervently hoped his kids would come home okay.

He was obviously horribly conflicted, and seemed to honestly want to hear about our objections to the war.

My heart goes out to all of them, even the horrible carpet installer.

4. I have a good one for you mopaul!
Last week in church, my pastor starts out by saying that President Bush is spying on various communications to PROTECT US! Then he goes on to say that God can hear all of our communications, blah, blah, blah. I could not really listen to the rest because I was in shock. Needless to say, I am skipping church today. My heart just is not in it. Bushco has started a disease that is spreading far and wide and now my pastor has caught it. I am lost. I thought we were Christians. I do not care to lose my personal freedoms as an American over it. I am not afraid of any terrorists. I am afraid of my church. Sorry for the rant, but my heart is aching over this so-called Christian behavior I have seen over the past five years or so.

8. Gandhi said, "I wanted to be a Christian, until I saw them in action."
He must have been watching the same kind of neoChristians as we are witnessing in America, drunk on power, blinded by greed, galloping on a headless horse towards their own destruction.

15. I was paraphrasing.
It was as close as I could get. :(

Not that a neoChristian would give a rat's a** what Gandhi thought. He was brown. I am soooo hoping that when Jesus comes out of the heavenly skies, he's as black as ebony with nappy hair and coal-black eyes that spit flames and cause all the neoChristians to spontaneously combust.

17. And DT Suzuki said...
"God against man. Man against God. Man against nature. Nature against man. Nature against God. God against nature. Very funny religion!"

And who said "Lord, protect me from your Followers"?

Kind of odd, isn't it, that during the last 2 world wars you had Catholic and Protestant Clergy on BOTH sides of the conflict telling their flocks that Gawd was on THEIR side.

The Germans even had "Gawd is with US" (Gott Mit Uns) stamped into the belt buckles. Amnerican pastors told the congregation that the US would prevail because our cause was "Just", and I'd lay you 1:1 odds the German Pastors told their Burghers and farm-folk the SAME thing.

Wonder what Japanese Xians were told? WERE there Xians in Japan in the first 1/2 of the last century?

All my other feelings about religion aside, I'd have to think hard about returning to a place led by someone who thinks the Deity has "touched" the Fuhrer.

11. Your pastor was right about one thing
God knows what is in your heart. Don't look to human beings, look to Him. You can be a Christian without a church.

I feel your pain.

6. this morning while listening to the priest talk about what a precious gift
Christ is to us .... i admit that emotions went on clamp down or lock down, however it is that people say... not because of Christ himself but because it all began to sound sooo much like booosh himself...and the priests, and the churches and the ministers don't even realize what a pollutant george has been to their cause!

13. False prophets come in his name
and fool many, even God's chosen. It's all very Biblical, yet these poor idiots don't even realize they are part of the story they have been studying for years. Just like Judas.

7. it's so weird you posted this...
I needed to find a new charging cord for my Tungsten the other day and browsed around eBay. I found one for a good price and was about to bid on it when I saw at the bottom of the listing that among the seller's other items was a t-shirt that said, "Kill Them All and Let God Sort It Out".

I was so repulsed, so grossed out, so morally and theologically opposed to this slogan that I ended up paying more to someone else because I didn't want to give someone so evil a single dime.

What's scary is - who would actually wear this obscenity?

10. I exploded on my brother-in-law
on christams in front of the whole liberal family.

Told him to wake up and look around, He replied with yelling "I get what I want, I get what I want"

I explained to him that republicans always get what they want, its just at the expense of others, then I pointed to his two little girls and explained that his taxcut has to be paid for by his kids, that he just took a slice of their future because of his greed. Then I told him to look in the driveway, there were 12 American cars, then his Toyota. He makes far more than anybody in the family. I also told him that he has taken sides against our constitution and that makes him a enemy of the state. I called him a traitor. Me and the wifey had to leave at this point.

I told my family that I will not bite my lip anymore, no matter where I am or what I am doing.

I went to my dads place and the step-mother-in-law was over, She has been warned by me to stay away. My step mom had to put her in a room like a dog so that I could come into the house.

I am not fucking around anymore. "The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in a period of moral crisis maintain their neutrality" -Dante

12. my neighbor is a born again redneck
seemingly harmless, neighborly enough, but he started out quoting the beatitudes, then said he hated bush although he voted for him twice, then said we should just 'kill em' all'.

i changed the topic, but no more, i'll scream in his face next time.
