WOW! Specter just said that IMPEACHMENT is a remedy for BushCo spying! |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 11:12 AM by Vinnie From Indy
As a guest on George Snuffleupaguss's show, he said it was a very remote possibility and is only a remedy in theory. He also said that could be followed by criminal prosecution. Regardless of how he really feels, hearing those words from a GOP Senator was refreshing. He went on to discuss the hearings on why the Bushies bypassed the FISA courts. He sounded very skeptical of BushCo. We'll see!

He is saying exactly the opposite of what the Repugs said when they went after Clinton.
Now he is standing by the principle that you can only impeach a sitting president, you can not indict him, knowing damn well that there is no way a Repug Congress will impeach Bush, therefore Spector is claiming that there will be no legal vehicle for holding Bush accountable or to remove him from office.

11. Actually, The Rethugs are Bush's Biggest Worry |
|
Actually, I suspect that the Rethugs are Bush's biggest worry. Bush is currently an albatross around the neck of each and every Rethug. If Rethug reelection prospects start to turn seriously south, I suspect that they'll put Bush's head on the chopping block.
Bush staying in power is the wet dream of a Democrat running for office in a centrist state - it'll be awful fun to compare Rethug opponents to an obviously evil and failed president.
Also, if Bush is impeached, the line of succession is terrifying - Darth Cheney, Condi, and Ted Stevens. Scary stuff - I'm not sure if any Democrat wants to wade into that.

2. I guess I missed something here... |
|
Is this the same Specter that supported BushCo all along and said that Alito was the greatest thing since white bread?

3. Don't read too much into my post headline |
|
I was simply making the observation that it is nice to hear the word "impeachment" being uttered by a GOP Senator in regard to the boy king.

4. Maybe it hit a little to close to home. Repugs protect themselves |
|
first, the corporations second, the nation third, the people not at all.
Sounds like he feels that he and his corporate buddies may have been spied on.

5. Impeachment begins in the House. The corrupt |
|
assholes who ARE the House of Representatives will NEVER start impeachment proceedings. The ONLY way the House will impeach is IF we take it back in November. I don't see That happening UNLESS evoting machines are trashed and paper ballots are used OR a paper trail of some sort. They will steal more seats AGAIN.

9. Hmmm. Hard to know what this means exactly-- but |
|
Perhaps a few calls and emails to his office to say "thank you for being open minded" or to express support for reminding America that that illegal spying on American citizens is a non-partisan issue" (as is protecting our Constitutional right to privacy) would be in order now? We need bi-partisan support on this-- and although in theory I know we have it, it's not clear how many of the GOP will actually do the right thing when push comes to shove. Any thoughts?

12. This is nice I guess, but Specter still doesnt' get a pass from me |
|
I am very upset with him for annoucing his intention to vote to confirm Alito.
Specter wrote in his very own book in 2000 that the Senate should resist confirming those nominees who don't make their views known.
And Alito did just that. He would not say how he would have voted on Bush v. Gore (a case that obviously has already come before the Court and been resolved). And he would not even say yes or no on whether he thought Roe v. Wade was the settled law of the land. That is a question that John G. Roberts did not hesitate to answer during his hearings.
And then, I forget which one, but one of the Republican Senators on the Judiciary Committee told Alito not to "lose any sleep" over the fact that he had promised them he would recuse himself from the Vanguard case, and he failed to do so. He was told by one of the Rethuglicans not to lose any sleep over it. Don't lose any sleep over having lied to the United States Senate?
So, Specter doesn't get a pass from me at all.

and then cave in to support the Bushco agenda.
