This is from my latest issue of Consumer Reports:
"Last August, before Hurricane Katrina had ever hit a radar screen, a North Carolina reader sent us a promotion he had received for flood insurance. Our reader was annoyed about the pitch, period. But what struck us was what was said and who said it."
(graphic of an excerpt of the letter) FEMA letterhead: "Flooding is not covered by your homeowners insurance policy. And the federal government is unlikely to provide help in most cases of flooding."
