this is why the war must end *pic*
Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 11:06 AM by Glenda
this image made me cry

caption: Katrina Gionet mourned the death of her husband, Daniel, at graveside services yesterday at Gibson Cemetery in Pelham, N.H. Army Sergeant Gionet died after a roadside bomb hit his tank outside Baghdad.

article:

PELHAM, N.H. -- Army Sergeant Daniel Gionet, a 23-year-old medic, waved off help as he lay mortally wounded after his tank was ripped apart by a roadside bomb outside Baghdad. Tend to the others, he said, after helping pull his comrades from the wreck.

`` `I'm OK,' he said, but he wasn't OK," recalled Joe Connors, his high school baseball coach, in a eulogy at St. Patrick's Church. ``Dan died that day in the Iraq desert."

That sense of giving, even as Gionet lay dying June 3, epitomized the newly married soldier, Connors said. He had never been the star athlete, had never helped a team win a state championship, but had always been the consummate teammate.

...

Gionet, who was born in Lowell but moved to Pelham after fifth grade, was married in November. Gionet and his 19-year-old wife, Katrina, had made detailed plans for their early years together. Both of them would complete college, help the other meet the costs, buy a house, and start a family.

4. Absolutely - George Bush and his Gestapo must be stopped.
Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 11:31 AM by AndyA
Not since Adolf Hitler has the world seen such abuse of power and arrogance. The war in Iraq was built on lies. We have Bush on record as lying to the American people, and attempting to cover up the outing of a CIA agent.

Nixon was about to be impeached for similar circumstances when he resigned in August 1974. The Constitution must be protected above all else, and Bush must be removed from office in order to do so!

Edit: Fingers move faster than brain.

11. Nixon was not impeached, but he would have been had he not resigned.
I think what the current president has done is far far worse. And it is definitely worse that what Clinton did.

tells them to do. Kind of like Bush and the Constitution...

2. Gosh we are so lucky
that "conservatives" have not one ounce of love or compassion or humanity in their bones so they can continue to wave the flag and support our great leader so more such pictures can be made. Besides as that brave american statesman limbaugh would tell you "more die in car wrecks."

6. Our good Christian leaders are the biggest hypocrites of all time!
They do not do ANYTHING that is Christian. NOTHING. They are not Christians, they are the wolf in sheep's clothing The Bible warned us about.

Even The Pope said he thought George Bush was the anti-christ. What more do we need, America? Do we need him to start slaying Americans in the streets before you wake up?

3. It stopped being a war when the last Iraqi tank and jet were
reduced to cinders. Now it is a tool for a squatter to maintain a powergrab with... so sad that America can be fooled again and again and again.

14. An invasion is a war.
An occupation is arguably not a war, however it is the direct result ofa successful war of aggression, and if the occupation is up against a determined insurgency then it is also a war. What is important to make clear is that Iraq is not part of the 'war against the people who attacked us on 9-11', as the Iraqis had nothing to do with that. The Iraq War and the supposed War on Terror are separate wars.

17. It was the largest theft in history, shutting out France, Germany,
Russia and other nations from business dealings they had forged with Iraq, the same Iraq that had more PhD's per capita than the U.S., as well as few if any Burqa card carrying women.

8. All I can think is, "for what?"
Like the parents in F9*11, mourning thier fallen son, "for what?!"

I want bush/cheney/rummy/condi and the rest of the war criminals, and their cheerleaders, to answer that question. Lying, murdering bastards.

and to think that there are souls everywhere mourning and lost cuz of this stupid war. We need to start small. I think that since we can't show the flag drapped coffins, let us show the coffins of soulders draped by their loved ones. Whatever we cannot do, let us do what we can.

Let us each suggest a very small thing to do, do it ... and see how loud we can get.

I suggest that everyone who is against this war should march at the end of every 4th of July parade held in this country. Just get in line at the end and scream, hollar, march and bitch.

20. yes--we need to get pictures out there
The best way to impact people is through their emotions. Seeing a picture like this will be a way to get them to ask themselves, for once, "is it worth it?" and they will begin to look for the answer. Otherwise they will not.

as Bush leaves it up to the next presidents to decide the fate of our soldiers lives in a war started for power and profit.
