I'm Sad To Say It. But, I Am Leaving DU.

When I first joined here, the mods were far more open to criticism of problems within the party. It seems like that openness is changing rapidly.

I feel strongly that the party is a mess and needs to be changed. The first thing that is needed to make these changes is to be able to openly discuss the problems. The biggest problem as I see it is an unwillingness to fight for progressive values and the overall influence of DLC style moderates that are selling out those progressive values. But, nearly every thread I have posted on the topic of late has been removed. I see little cause to stick around here if the open discussion of problems within the party is immediately labeled flame bait and removed.

Why post just to see it disappear within minutes?

I still have a lot of good friends here. To you all, I say thanks for the great interaction over the past couple of years. You can still find me and my work at my website and sites such as progressive independent and liberal underground.

Let me be clear that I have no animosity for DU. I just think that "we have grown apart". Maybe I am just more radical than I used to be. Who knows. Regardless of the causes of the rift, I want to spend my energies at sites that are more open to where I am coming from.

I have thought of leaving as well, although perhaps for the opposite reason. I am very moderate and when I give a moderate opinion I usually get toasted. That's okay, really. But I wish I could find a place where we could really debate some of the extreme stuff without moderation. I'm a big girl..I could do it! I'd even love to debate some Republicans in a considered, thoughtful manner...not label them all freeper idiots.

In short, I want dialogue and it is a bit stymied here.

Caveat:

this site was created right after the 2004 elections were over. It used to be the "John Kerry" Forum site of 2004 - i was totally active throughout the campaign then - but when the elections were over the old site was shut down and CGCC was created in it's place - (all the members were just automatically transferred over)..

I'm still a registered user there, but haven't been active in a year since the DNC elections - a lot of DLC folks suddenly appeared on the scene waging a heavy duty and well organized trash and smear campaign against Howard Dean for the DNC chair position - i quit engaging there and came here thinking there were a lot more progressives here at DU who knew that the elections were stolen and that it was imperative for Dean to be Chair (if we were going to make the needed changes in the way the party "does it's business").

CGCC is definitely the site for those who consider themselves Moderate and/or Centrist. Also there are moderate republicans/conservatives there when i stopped engaging there a year ago - a lot has happened since last year on the political landscape - have no idea how that has impacted CGCC (if at all)it's certainly worth checking out to see if it's more suitable to your needs.

People get angry about how they're treated here, they post a thread threatening to leave, it gets over 200 posts, many with people begging said poster not to leave, said poster re-thinks his hasty decision and decides to give DU one more chance.

It happens several times a year. I'm not sure how you could have missed it. It is very tiresome. Nobody ever actually just leaves DU, they almost all end up staying. The people that actually leave don't post these kinds of threads.

I believe that the DLC are neocliberals, planted in the party to make sure it doesn't get to be too successful on, eg, opposition to corporate wars. So I'm with you on that issue.

If that's a wrong impression, then I'd rather debate it than try to hide the uneasiness many Democrats have about them. Forbidding discussion of it, won't change the minds of anyone, if anything, it will only confirm what many of us already believe about the DLC.

I understand your reasons but wish you would stay ~ although this DLC matter may divide the Democrats before the next election. I for one, will never support anyone who makes any excuses for this war, or who attempts to manipulate those who opposed it and still do. We did last time, never again.

We have great Democrats who represent true Democratic values on this subject. They never wavered about this war, and still have not. Those are the Democrats I look to for leadership. And who made the DLC 'leaders' anyway? The whole idea of a think tank with a deceptive name, (I thought they were the DNC originally) really bothers me. It's so Rightwing Republican. Let them make their case instead of issuing memos and using spokespersons to get their message out.

Rep. Conyers has done what I expected all Democrats to do. He does not get the support of the party. I have never seen one iota of support from them for him from the DLC.

This is the meaning of Liberal, free will and the right to have your opinion. I realize that a few months back you were getting tired of DU! You stuck it out and obviously didn't like what you saw.

I appreciate the sanctuary aspect of this place and it is pretty open, but I don't like that all the 911 stuff is dropped to the basement. Most of the so called conspiracy stuff that came out years ago is now well accepted as the Culture of Corruption has revealed itself.

I also feel that the dems. have been infiltrated by neocons and they are not just in the DLC, but here, AAR and everywhere. They should be questioned at every turn. DU must be careful not to lose it's base by allowing too much milquetoast middle of the road republican lite crap to take over the website.

One things the Republicans do is that they put up with the likes of Chafee, Collins, Specter, etc. because they know that they need them.

We don't have the luxury of following our principles to the letter. That's not how democracy works. Unless we all stand and work together, we can't help any of the victims of this rightwing government. In standing together, we can sweep in a few progressive Democrats along with the DLC types. But, if we don't stand together, then the Republicans will continue to rule.
