I feel better about Bush now.
I realized that since all the nat guard troops are in Iraq along with alot of our arms its going to be far more challenging to declare martial law.

2. Four words
Not enough of them

They did an "exercise" in New Orleans (Dick Cheney's words) and found out how easy it would be to take over a surrounded city.

But there won't be flooding everywhere. Not if there is a revolution. And I know some die-hard, Bush-hating Dems with arsenals from hell. If ** ever tried Martial law on a large scale in this country, he would lose.

The people are angry, and they are ready to fight. And some of those contractors would turn tail in a heartbeat if they faced real, armed citizens rather than exhausted flood victims and subdued Iraqis.

3. I have never met a Democrat with an arsenal of any kind.
Who are you hanging out with? My Democratic friends are all peace-loving as am I. "Violent Democrat" is an oxymoron. What are you talking about?

9. You need to get out more. Seriously. This is not a dig but advice
I won't tell you which incumbent Democrat here in Tennessee gave away a rifle at a Dem meeting. Guns have purpose for some people, especially rural people.

Some people want to sit afraid in their houses and imagine the "horror" of humanity. They want to create stereotypes about who and what is "out there." The only way to know who your fellow man is? Get off your ass and meet him.

You are lucky to have DU, because you can meet someone like me. I am peace-loving as well, but I am not a doormat. We would not have the nation we have today if not for ammunition.

16. Having an arsenal and having a gun or even several guns
are two very different things. I grew up in rural America among hunters. They have guns, but not arsenals. There is a very important difference.

14. We have two guns at home
and yes if it came down to that I am ready to use them.... PERIOD!

It is time for people to at the very least take a weapon familiarization course, because we are getting there fast. That said, I was a medic for a National Red Cross society (no, not the ARC) for ten years... so how much more ahem peaceful can you get?

That said, I suspect they will use contractors... now whether that will be the spark to the civil war or the point Americans just go to sleep taht is a good question. We shall see, as they say.

7. That's a valid point, but I think their means of control are much
more subtle. As long as we have TV and Big Macs, they can pretty much do what they want.

12. I want to know which side the malitias will come down on.
Are they not anti-federal government? Where would the malitias stand if the idiot-in-chief declared martial law? Just wondering. Would they side with the private government malitias like Blackwater or the citizens? Anyone know?

13. Here is a scary thought.
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 01:35 PM by carolinalady
1. Reduce the number of national guard.
2. Increase the authority of the military to act in the US (after all George thought it was a marvelous idea when Katrina hit).
3. Create a terrorist scare (CODE RED)
4. Impose martial law so George can do everything in his "urinary executive powers" to keep us Amurikins safe. (And that is gonna be hard work but Rummy does a "heck of a job") so I am sure we'll all be ok. :sarcasm:
