Dems who fear 2006 backlash for Alito filibuster, should CONSIDER THIS:
If Alito is confirmed your jobs won't matter anyway; the already marginalized congress will be rendered obsolete by an all powerful executive! DEMS, IT'S DO OR DIE!

2. Don Not Underestimate This
They will solidify a one party totalitarian government. Anyone who thinks I am being a little extreme needs to open their eyes.

3. now listen i'm very conflicted about this -- however maybe
they should consider a backlash of a different kind.

disappoint enough people -- react in a blase, indifferent fashion to enough things -- maybe the folk the democratic party was counting on doesn't show up?

i honestly don't know -- but it could happen if people simply feel ignored.

4. Do you really think dems alone can stop the nomination?
If the moderate republicans are going to line up as usual Alito is in. 2004 decided this outcome no matter how much a minor minority party dislikes it.

5. Whether we can stop it or not...
The question is WILL THE DEMOCRATS STAND UP AGAINST TYRANNY or will they cave?

Giving up before you try? Really useful. Like Gore. Like Kerry. They promised to fight and took a dive.

Also, moderate Republicans need to be asked Party or country? Everyone who is in a mod Rep state needs to contact your Senator and ask that.

8. You're right
"The question is WILL THE DEMOCRATS STAND UP AGAINST TYRANNY or will they cave? "

If we don't try, there is no way to win. We also need to be on record as fighting as hard as we can to prevent this man from being on the Supreme Court. Each voice raised in opposition encourages others to raise their voices, as well. Voters will remember which politicians stand up for what they believe, and what their constituents demand. They will face far more punishment during elections if they continue enabling this out of control administration.

10. Yeah, there's people like old Arlen who pay lip service to "concerns" but
you already know how they're going to vote from the downbeat.

14. How is Alito tyranny?
I don't like his stances and he didn't answer any questions. Of course most nominees no longer say anything productive during the process. I would like Bush to have nominated a moderate but surely no one really expected that. At least Meirs would've appeared incompetent.

7. The good thing about all of this
is, after all is said and done the stupid one issue voters will wake up and find out that not only did the repukes abandon them but their religion did too. When they lose their jobs and find out they are entitled to nothing from those they follow, well we can all say suck it up you wanted it you got it, then we move to canada and leave them to starve and rot in this mis begotten country of the rich for the rich and by the rich.

11. I understand the need for practicality, but
if the democrats actually take back congress, Bush will certainly move to neutralize their power. If there's one thing BushCo has proved again and again, it's that they're not going to let that "@%&#! piece of paper" get in the way.

12. Yeah, but they'll still have their cushy jobs.......
those fat paychecks, great benefits and all of the "little perks" that come with the job. They don;t actually want to WORK, just give the appearance of doing so. It appears that's all they're worried about, their jobs. They know there will be enough brain-dead Democrats to re-elect them, but they certainly don't want to rock the boat to hard. Why, if they lost their nice, cushy Congressional jobs they might have to find a REAL JOB! And as we all know, in the bush economy that's not an easy task.

No, they'll kiss bush's ass again and confirm Alito, those expense accounts are SOOOOOO nice and all of those freebies? Wouldn't want to give those up either, the free meals, tickets, driveway repaving.......those "little" things that men so much to a Congressional whore.

I've had it with this bunch of "Democrats". They've forgotten what a real Democrat is, it's time we reminded them. Let's put these bush enabling shits out of work! :grr:

13. ALL of them?

Who do you think voted against making the PATRIOT Act permanent?

Who do you think got ANWR drilling taken out of the budget?

Yeah, let's get rid of all of 'em. We don't need their stupid votes on anything, do we?

:sarcasm:

You know, it must suck to be a National Democrat these days.

They're often on the losing end of votes, they are ignored and villified by the Republican leadership, they are ridiculed and misquoted by the Corporate media faster than Media Matters can even report it, and some of their own party members are ready to throw them under the bus because they can't prevail when they are clearly out-numbered.

I'll bet they wonder why they even try some times.

16. It's not the republican party you should they should be worrying about.
They were elected by Democrats to be Democrats and they'll be fired by Democrats. It's time to clean house people of both are base and the dinos in office. Remember quallity of quantity.
