What are some people completely lacking in altruism?
You know the kind: They vote for Republicans singularly because the believe the GOP will safeguard their money (never mind that Bushco isn't even doing that!) They apparently feel no obligation to give back to the country and society which has allowed them to prosper. Does 'freedom' mean never having to give a rat's ass to these people?

I really don't get it. I don't like paying taxes, but I'd be happy to do it if I could direct what my tax money was spent on, instead of seeing it used, well, the way it's being used!

1. They seem to think that they got where they are with no help.
When of course, everyone who is successful has had some kind of help from others, however small.

But when their time comes to give the same kind of help, they can't be bothered with it.

4. True. I've know a fair number of .....
highly successful people, and ALL of them had major help of some sort.

An example: I know a man who had a role on one of TV's most successful shows (now ended). He is a very good actor, but he got the role (or got considered for it) because he knew the casting director.

2. I love this quote--Its true now more than ever.
The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

5. They are children. Not adults. They are either weak followers or the
leaders who biologically or through some trauma cannot reach adulthood. The extra special leaders have egos that need to be endlessly fed. And to do that they seek power so they can see their greatness reflected back at them by a large number of people either loving them, or doing exactly as they say. The extra special leaders have no way of getting that "good feeling" other than looking for it outside of themselves. They are in many ways - incomplete humans.
