Who will put their money where their mouth is?
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 02:23 PM by Neecy
How many of us will again face the choice of voting for a pro-war Democrat or a pro-war Republican this fall? That's my choice - again - when I vote for my congressional representative.

I'll also have the 'choice' of voting for a pro-Patriot Act Democrat vs. pro-Patriot Act Republican. A pro-bankruptcy bill Democrat vs. a pro-bankruptcy bill Republican. A pro-tax cut Democrat vs. a pro-tax cut Republican. You know the routine.

It all comes down to the illusion of choice, and I know I really don't have one. Many here have been threatening to leave the party is Alito isn't filibustered. So how many of you will march down to your election offices and file for your congressional seat as an Independent or Green? Where is the flood of candidates coming out of the "I'm leaving the party" movement?

You might get more votes than you think. Something to consider*.

*Of course, this isn't a 'hurt the party' post since I don't want to offend any tender sensibilities. I'm just wondering what we can do rather than just complain.

1. I'm voting green personally
I WILL NOT vote for a DLC card carrying Republican Lite, conflict of interest, corporatist, US Senator

A vote for a green is a vote for a republican.

2. How would this help?
Voting in a pro-war Democrat or a pro-Patriot Act Democrat WILL help. In congress, everything is about the numbers. The party that controls the committees controls the agenda. So if we have to get a few pro-war/pro-patriot act Democrats to ensure control of the congress then it's well worth it.

Look around. We have what we have today BECAUSE of people who decided to vote third party. If Nader had not been on the ballot in Florida in 2000 we would now have President Gore.

Actually, it IS a hurt the party post even if you didn't intend it to be one. What can you do instead of just complaining? Work to defeat the pro-war/pro-Patriot Act Democrats in the primaries and then no matter which Democrat gets on the ballot, work like hell to get him/her into office.

4. Feel free to march down to your election offices
and file for your congressional seat as a Democrat.

But if you're going to play third-party spoiler in a race between a Dem and a Republican, you can promote your candidacy on someone else's website.

Locking.
