US forces release 500 prisoners from Abu Ghraib

Baghdad: Some 500 security detainees were released Sunday from Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison, said a statement from the US military that controls the facility.

Those freed were "not guilty of serious, violent crimes - such as bombing, torture, kidnapping, or murder", said the statement.

1. Sooo, how long were they there, and were they guilty of ANYTHING?

I'm glad to hear they released people, but I want to know WHY they were there in the firts place! How long have they been held? Did somebody do some investigation and find these people not guilty of anything, or did they just decide the reasons they were detained were insufficient?
