Hajj deaths dismay Arab Press
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 03:08 PM by augie38

The Arab press in the Middle East has reacted with horror to the deaths of hundreds of pilgrims, crushed during the stone-throwing ritual at the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

Papers in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere called for better organisation of the ritual and for religious rulings to ensure there are no repeats.

Until the rulers of Saudi Arabia react with the same horror and resolve to amend the situation, the editorials and the deaths that precede them will continue. This will of necessity involve reaching out to the governments of the pilgrims' various countries.
