Alito likely to be confirmed.
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 03:49 PM by Cascadian
I don't know what to feel right now. Sometimes angry and sometimes I want to just sleep into a depression induced coma. Sam Alito is very likely to get the nod from the Senate and it seems like some of the Senate's Democrats don't want to fight through a filibuster. Feinstein, a woman who really should not be a Democrat, is cautioning against a filibuster. Why, Dianne??? I saw some of the confirmation hearings and I was less than impressed with the performance. I did like Joe Biden with his baseball cap though! :sarcasm: Nice touch!

To me, not filibustering will just be another classic example of certain Senate Democrats once again keeling over into a ball and allow the Neocons to win. Doesn't anybody get this??? Most of them don't even know which way they will vote for this. The evidence is crystal clear and there, you guys! An Alito nomination will mean the stripping away of all of our rights and freedoms!

I am sorry to all of you DUers who would vote for Gengis Khan if he had a "D" at the end of his name. I cannot help but bash those who won't fight the Neocons or "sell out" the party's principles. I will continue to do so until these politicians change their ways or we get a new team of Democrats who are going to fight this crap. This party needs a serious overhaul!

you will see that more and more Californians have had it with Dianne.... and will do anything to get her out of office, including voting green.

If I am right on this and this is not a DU phenomena, as goes California, goes the nation... we may be on a crest of something the DLC and the Neo Cons don't expect.

2. I was going to be a California voter
until my plans to relocated fell apart! It's a long story! If I were to vote down there, I would have no qualms in voting against Feinstein. A REAL Democrat, a Green, or a Socialist candidate would suit me fine. Dragon Lady Dianne must go!

Thanks for the link BTW!

5. You do understand
that voting "Green" will only help elect a Republican, right? I mean a protest vote is fine, but you have to understand the reality of what it is doing, and that is absolutely all it is doing- helping to elect a Republican. The better approach, although still a tough road, is to support a grassroots campaign for a more progressive Democrat to challenge her in a primary.

I am sick of this damned arguement. I hate Feinstein and cannot stand her or others of her ilk that sell out the Democratic Party by rolling over everytime a Neocon sneezes! This is such a pathetic arguement. I am sorry but it is! It is time the Democratic Party became the Democratic Party and not the "Me Too" Democratic Party! Otherwise, the Greens and other progressive leaning parties are going to gain! Wake up!

7. Fine
You may think it is a pathetic argument, but explain to me why you think it is wrong. The Green Party is never going to have majority support under our current system. The best Green Party campaign you could imagine could never hope to gain majority support. It's just not going to happen. So your vote for a candidate that can't win, and who takes votes only away from the Democrat, is one less vote the Republican has to overcome to win. Now you can say you don't care, and that's fine. But it's still true.

8. Feinstein is NOT a true Democrat
I would not vote for her on the point that she rolls over and even goes along with the Neocons on various issues. What good would my vote be then?

I understand to a point of what you are saying however, I am no longer going to compromise my principles and what I believe in and support somebody who is going to sell me out everytime! No more Mr. Nice Guy!

About the system we currently have. I am one of those people who seriously think we would be better off with a multiparty system as opposed to a duopoly that we have now. We need to push to make changes for that.

Fortunately for Feinstein, I am not a California voter. I have my own Senator who has her own issues of integrity at the moment! I am still debating whether to vote for her or not.

4. I don't think he's likely to be confirmed
I know every single news story is making that prediction, but I think it's bullshit every single time I read it. The more times I see it, the more likely I think Alito will be stopped.

10. I wish you were right but I think Bush will get what he wants,.
The President usually does on this. Not this guy it will be some one like him. The court seems to me to always be dragging up the rear. If they make laws I only think it is that they go against what people want or do not want and then it is said they make law. This guy does seem to say what ever the powerful want to get a job. Maybe what he really thinks if different than he has said or joined over the last GOP years. We were all pretty sure Souter was far right at one time.
